This tower along with the Jin Mao and WFC will be an incredible trio of supertalls.

Yeah... it's gonna be a hotspot for skyscrapers! (and photography!)

It's funny how the Jin Mao will, in a sense, feel out of place when all is complete.. it might even look dated too (surrounded by glass towers). not to mention, it'll probably look really short compared to Shanghai tower

the 3 towers are supposed to represent past(Jin Mao), present,(WFC) and future(shanghai tower). so no wonder that the Jin Mao tower looks dated!

I just came back from Shanghai. The pictures below were taken by me on 6th of October.

The picture below was taken on 30th of September from the 100th floor of the SWFC. Sorry about the bad quality.

On the 13th of October I went to the Bund (Puxi-side of the river). If you walk to the southern area the cranes are clearly visible.

When I was on the SWFC I couldn't see the construction for this development but it looks amazing, anyone know if the observation deck will be higher than SWFC one?

yes indeed the way Shanghai has done it is very unique.
considering that all of them has taken records and are way close to each other.
and each design is very unique.

i guess the observation deck will be higher but they might go for very exclusive apartments or offices this time

Hasn't the ST a concrete core, or is it a steel core sourrounded by concrete like we have it at One WTC?

Reinforced concrete and steel, but not with the "moment frame" method like on 1WTC(the core will rise faster on this building, as opposed to it lagging several stories below the floors).

Shanghai isn't surpassing Dubai with the tallest, especially not with Shanghai Tower. ST is 2,073, while Burj is 2,717. I'm half and half about Jeddah Tower.

This tower finds elegance where towers like 1WTC and SWFC have gained it. It will look beautiful even if its not the tallest, which is why developers don't try to bump up the height.

Is it an optical illusion, or is the core of this building bigger than 1 WTC?

+1

this is 1 million times better than the burj dubai, IMO, and deserves the title "the worlds tallest building" much more than the burj dubai.

how do you know? unless we have measurements we couldn't know (unless someone has been both towers at the ground level stage). Engineer's could in-fact have made the core thicker. The floorplates of this tower are much bigger than 1WTC, plus these skyscrapers are designed with safety in mind. The Shanghai WFC's architects/engineers added the giant crossbeams to the core after 9/11, I don't see why they wouldn't design something much safer for this tower.

i dont though by judging the scale of the core as opposed to the size of the cars and concrete trucks it doesnt look as large as 1 WTC.
