The floor plates look massive on this one.

I really like the dramatic crown.

Anyone have any lobby shots / interior shots of this building? (I know it's probably a long shot).

Isn't pomo supposed to play with historical motifs? The design seems too solid to be post-modern. It's like a chubby, updated version of late gothic revival/art-deco.

I think my problem with this tower is that it isn't square. Looking up or down 8th Avenue the massing, proportioning and scale seem quite nice...and then you see it from the East or West...yikes. Those longer facades are just brutal.

I read Karl Sabbach's book about this when I was 12 (in 1989). I didn't understand alot of it at the time, but it really gave me a basic understanding of how the development process works.

The first time I went to NYC in 1999, this was one of the buildings I sought out. I found the detailing quite nice, but the overall effect of the tower a little overwhelming.

I'm not a specialist, I don't know exactly what po-mo is, but I like this building.
From certain angles it reminds an medieval tower
I like its large base and also its color. Even though I agree that it's not the most delicate building in Manhattan.

Never really liked this building. Looks too fat and its top it just too big. I dislike the pink color most of all as it makes it look like a giant toy toddler trying to fit in with all of NY's adult skyscrapers.

The first modern tower that began the 8th Avenue renaissance.

When I went to NYC in 2010 I stayed at the Belvedere Hotel on 48th St, and our room looked out over Worldwide Plaza.

^ Hey but atleast it's the closest thing we have gotten to Art Deco in the last 30/40 some years, and it kicked off the 8th Ave renaissance.
