How has your 2015-16 winter been?

How has your 2015-16 winter been?

Calgary has had it pretty good this year, probably easiest winter in the 36 years I've been here - apparently 54cm of snow so far although I don't recall shovelling that much and only 4 days below -20C, in fact I have not worn my winter coat this winter.

How has this winter been elsewhere?

So?

It's all relative to where one lives, no?

I've been curious about Calgary, here's one way of looking at this.
# of days between Dec 21 and Feb 15 with highs above zero:

(2012 was a switchover to another station and there's too many missing days)

2005 49
2006 36
2007 28
2008 29
2009 21
2010 27
2011 40
2012 NA
2013 32
2014 34
2015 30

I'm actually surprised years that I considered warm or cold don't tend to be that much difference. Might be because what really makes a difference is if winter starts mid October or more like mid December.

Moncton:

Only a couple of bad storms so far. Only one cold snap, and it only lasted three days. At least three thaws so far. It's going to be +10C today and tomorrow.

All in all, much more tolerable than last year!

Wet and grey and miserable as always. It'd probably be depressing if the city wasn't so colorful.

Temperatures have been more or less normal. More cold during daylight hours than usual. We've had far fewer storms than usual which has been an interesting break.

Most people who are complaining about the cold snap right now are consoling themselves by insisting this is our first real taste of winter this season. I disagree but that seems to be the general consensus.

Almost no winter to speak of. About ten days with daytime highs less than -15C and almost none of the -30C overnights with -40C windchills. Almost no snow on the ground which sucks because getting the kids outside to play when you can't build a fort or go sledding is pretty ridiculous here.

And the sidewalks are icy. The rain (again) on Thursday will not help that out again.

In Winnipeg we haven't had much in the way of -30C weather yet, so we have been spared some of the extreme colds.

Otherwise, I think our averages have worked out almost in step with the normals.

Decent amount of snow on the ground. A few mild days here or there.

You could set your watch to Winnipeg winter weather.

Also with # of lows at or below -20

2008 29 12
2009 21 7
2010 27 16
2011 40 6
2012 NA NA
2013 32 12
2014 34 7
2015 30 4

So with that criteria this year is so far the year with the least very cold days since 2005.

We had 25cms of snow fall Jan 14th at -1C. Then it's been above zero highs everyday since. Lowest low AFAIK was -11.

For Victoria they went a full year without snow!

Yeah but it's sort of on a different path than this one r that is my intent with this thread - the other thread will go on and this one will wither away as the 2015-2016 winter season comes to a close.

Winter came late to SW Ontario this year. Yet come, it did, alas.

AFAIK we have not had snow on the ground since February 2014.

Victoria had an average high of 8 in January and an average high of 10 so far this month.

It's been extremely mild in Edmonton due to the El Nino winds coming in from the Pacific. It was really crazy seeing it +5 in Edmonton while Toronto was freezing in the -20s on the weekend. The sheer number of above-zero days has been astonishing, to say the least. Certain scenes look more like April than February right now and there have been reports of early buddings on plants. I think we've only had 3-4 days in into the -20s and we haven't hit -30 yet (or if we did, it was very late at night)... knock on wood.

I think these numbers say everything for Regina's winter:

Number of days with a high temperature below -25C: 0
Number of days with a high temperature below =20C: 2
Number of days with a high temperature below -10C: 17
Number of days with a high temperature above -5C: 71

Current normal high is -7C. Forecast highs this week are 0, 4, 6, 2, -3, -2, 1

That about sums up the winter here. 10C above the normal for almost the entire winter.
