A gigantic 2000' tower costing untold millions to construct, all for the main purpose of.... broadcasting television signals. This says a lot about our modern society. Very pretty though.

?! Its a multi-purpose structure, and will be broadcasting more than TV waves.

A. Our society? Do you live in China?

B. Its not just for broadcasting, I believe there will be an observation deck and restaurant or something at the top. How does that make this any different than the Space Needle or CN tower?

C. It probably doesn't cost all that much since its being built in China and is relatively barebones construction.

D. Also, the Eiffel Tower was constructed 120 years ago not even to broadcast radio waves, only to look good and give people a view. How does this new tower say anything different about "modern" (if you consider 120 years ago as modern as well) soceity than the Eiffel Tower?

First of All: Yay Space Needle.

Secondly: Modern was technically in the 1930's.

Lastly: The tower will send more than just TV Waves. And seeing how it's in China I wouldn't be surprised if it broad casted more than just TV and Radio signals. It's also a TV station not just the antenna. There will be an observation deck, a restaurant, and offices.

Hey, what's the point of a 7 star hotel? We don't need or want the Luxury of being able to stay in a fancy hotel which cost millions of dollars. Yeah. that says a lot about our society.

I know the CN tower is used for broadcasting too, and yeah, its no different in that respect. I was just commenting on our "Modern" society's complete dependence on communication - TV, radio, internet, whatever, that billions are spent on insuring its livelihood. This worries me for various reasons, but this is not the place to discuss that. I'm merely musing about this phenomena for my own personal satisfaction, and it has less to do with the tower itself than with "our society", i.e. the modern industrialized society of the world. I like the damn thing, so get off it.

yes, well, it was... good eye! Try to guess the new one.

Back on topic, purely from an architectural standpoint I like how this is shaping up. It looks much better than the renderings.

The diagram makes this tower look really flimsy and cartoonish, but it's looking much better in reality, much more solid.
