Nice Pictures Tim, thank you. Children's of Alabama expansion is all I've heard for your 1st picture. There is also a tower crane in the back of St.Vincent's, I think it may be for a parking deck.

Yea, the St. Vincent's crane is for a parking deck.

WOW, the School of Nursing looks FANTASTIC!

The Break project

Hi I'm new here. I'm a Birmingham native and still consider it "home," but I actually live in Huntsville now.

I'm happy to see Vesta is coming along nicely. Any news on The Break project (sorry, I don't know the correct name)? I thought groundbreaking was supposed to be early this year?

It's interesting reading the comments here and on al.com about the goings on in Birmingham. When I'm back in town, I'm struck by all the growth, improvement, construction, etc., that I see versus when I moved 8 years ago. Yet I read comments from locals and only see negativity. So frustrating!

No news on that one. Frankly, I always assume projects will break ground at least six months to a year after they are supposed to. And of course we know only about a third of projects announced will ever be built. This is very difficult on an impatient guy like me that wants all announced projects to be built yesterday😀

BTW TPH- I was embarrassed to discover only this week that the Town Madison project was designed by Duany Plater Zybert, of Seaside fame. That is going to be a great project. About six months ago, I emailed the BJCC and suggested that they consider approaching Jimmy Buffett about bringing a Margaritaville Hotel to Uptown. I thought it would be a good fit. No reply🙁

Hopefully when the dust settles on the new stadium they will look at a Margaritaville Hotel for Uptown, there is a nice spot at the end of and behind Uptown that would be a perfect fit.

Room to grow

The Woolworth Recreation and Refreshments

"Orchestra Partners plans to complete construction on The Woolworth, located in the old Bailey Brothers Music space on 20th Street in Five Points South, by July. A team from El Barrio and Paramount Birmingham helped Orchestra Partners create the facility, which will offer food, beverage and games, including duckpin bowling."

It's so nice to see so many tower cranes across the skyline!

It's also worth noting that there is plenty of work being done on the Liberty National building (I'm assuming to remedy its facade). I was worried that the new owner would just sit on the property, waiting, but it actually looks like they're investing!

the children's deck/office actually has 2 tower cranes up. cool sight.

also, saw on their FB page that Lakeview Green received final approval and should start construction in July. The land has been cleared for some time.

Huge news for the city. This should have a great effect on all facets of growth for years to come.

Y'know, I was kinda sad that the Humane Society didn't get the chance to develop the property as they wanted, it would have been a beautiful addition to the valley. All disappointment aside, the is an extremely important development for the metro area. The fact that a data center company from Atlanta wants to make Birmingham it's center of attention is a huge deal.

There was also news today that Shipt wants to hire more than 800 new employees in the city. No doubt that this data center will fuel those flames!

One step at a time, one step a time!

Yes, I hope a suitable location can be found for them quickly.

The idea of having a small tech park in the heart of city with an anchor like that is something that could spark a lot of flames. I hope it doesn't take nearly as long as it did to find a tenant as it did when Trinity went down. As in, maybe less than a couple of years before something else newsworthy wants to go in there.

this should help activate 20th street even more. I've enjoyed seeing an increase in pedestrian activity along this corridor over the years. still not anywhere near what it should be, though.
