Not sure. When you get "garlic breadsticks" here, it's basically just a crusty bread stick brushed with garlic butter with a sprinkling of parmesan cheese (95% bread). Garlic fingers are like 75% mozzarella cheese haha. Some place (most? all?) have bacon as an option (some have donair meat as well) but most people just get them plain.

Re: #WeTheNorth... that's a current campaign, not some "classic" ad that people would remember from their youths.

That's a little close to home, and close to deadline. Nova Scotia police allegedly foiled a mass shooting planned for Valentine's Day at some public venue in Halifax.

I just learned today that the Newfoundland dog is actually from Labrador and the Labador retriever is actually from Newfoundland (St. John's specifically). It's the British who switched up the names. They initially called the Labrador retriever the St. John's Water Dog and, later, the Lesser Newfoundland.

Also non-black Labradors were usually killed as undesirable until 1899. And it was this dog, probably mated with Portuguese mastiffs, that created the Newfoundland.

Wow, we were awful. Reading about Chinese immigration to St. John's.

The first men arrived and opened a laundry in 1895. In April of 1904, 50 arrived in a single day and locals lost their minds. On May 10, 1906, a new law was passed requiring Chinese immigrants to the Dominion of Newfoundland to pay a head tax of $300 (it was $500 in Canada at the time). The head tax was enforced until we joined Canada in 1949 (Canada ditched its version in 1923 in favour of restricting Chinese immigration to certain categories, for example, business people).

In 2006 Canada apologized to Chinese immigrants, excluding those in Newfoundland (same as was done with the apology to residential school survivors). The same year the Province apologized. In 2010 a head tax memorial was unveiled in St. John's.

I don't know if anyone has heard about this or why it's such a big deal in the United States, I just don't think this is such a big deal, if it were in Canada or is it just because Kylie is Kanye West's sister-in-law, but this is going crazy. For me so long as they're honest, and maintain the relationship is strictly platonic, I just don't get it.

I just wanna know why people pay so much attention to them. This should be a non-issue, non-story.

I guess, it's an American thing, in Canada this wouldn't even make the front page of the Bayview Post.

Well, it's on the Canada forum of SSP, isn't it?

Yes, but only as a commentary on subversive and underground Afrocan-American culture.

Initially, I was talking about how this Tyga and Kylie Relationship is taking on it's own life in the United States, the girl will be 18 in about 5 months. and there is only a 7 year age gap. Would this be such a big deal in Canada, if they maintained they were being strictly platonic about the relationship (ie. no sex). Anyways, most relationships I find are usually a 5 year age gap between the man and woman anyways. Why are there constant headlines and articles about these two, and unending online rants. 5 months from now will the story disappear? I think not, because beside the age gap, we also have the race card which plays into the racist US mentality as well.

I'm taking a work trip this weekend that will give me a short layover at Montreal train station, I'm hoping to use that time to get a poutine fix. Montrealers on this forum: what are the best poutine places within a <15 minute walk of Gare Centrale?

That's tough because you're limiting our search to the immediate downtown area. In my opinion the best Poutine places are a bit further east in the plateau (La Banquise, Patati Patata) or Poutineville by Papineau.

If you must restrict it to a <15 minute walk, I'd probably go to Frite Alors on Ste Catherine West and University. It's close, and it's pretty good in my opinion.

"Poutine" is one of those foods that sounds better in French. The English translation, "slop", doesn't appeal in the same way....

If you're short on time, the burger place in the train station's food court makes a pretty good poutine. It is right behind the Second Cup.

Went with that, as my train ended up late and I had a thin safety margin to begin with. It was delicious
