The first step to ensuring failure is that you'd have to have a vacant building to do it.
Also the Viterra building added four floors at around 1990. I would bet that working on the two floors beneath the construction activity would have been challenging.

I've always liked the Avord as well. Regina got the better of the two.

Quote from the Avord Tower Wiki: "Its own early days were before Regina's City Counsel substantially gave in to demands by business enterprise that downtown to a considerable extent be abandoned and emptied in favour of shopping centres on the outskirts of the city." ha

Saskatoon's slightly earlier, shorter twin.

I just recently leaned about this; however, some of you guys may already know as to how Barn-11, northwest of town, got its name. The elevation of "Barn-11" is at the same elevation as the 11th floor of the SGI building.

My Dad was present for the demolition of the McCallum Building in 1982 and brought his 8mm video camera along to capture it. He recently had his 8mm footage digitized and I got a copy of it up on Youtube.

I was expecting something further away with a little building way off in the distance........that was taken from quite close.

Photo from May 1944

These fine young gentlemen are about to head off to Europe to join the invasion fleet for Operation Overlord.
I'm pretty sure the large brick building is the College building on College Ave but what is the Wooden structure just to the right? It looks like some sort of boathouse so I'm assuming that they are between the college and Wascana Lake?

Detail of the buildings behind.

On the main Regina thread it indicates that Plum Garden on Albert will be demolished to make way for a Co-op Gas expansion and a new A&W. Does anyone remember the history of that building. This is what I recall:

early 70's - built as the Chinese Palace restaurant
80's - Earl's
90's - I think it was a pasta place?

There may have been other incarnations.

Edit: found a post from DanOmite confirming it was Poverino's and then a Mexican place.

Does anyone recall the pub in the basement of the Hotel Saskatchewan? It was an old fashioned bar with ratty red cloth table covers and I believe it closed around 1973. Other downtown hotel pubs included the Drake, LaSalle and Georgia followed by the Captain's Mug in the "newer" Regina Inn.

Albert street and 4th avenue N

Anyone remember the Mothers Pizza on 4th avenue n and Albert in the 80s?
It became Bonnie and Clyde's and changed hands a few times and is now The Last Straw. I worked there and drank there in the late 80s

Strathdee mall?

Do you remember this from the 90s to early 2000s? Used to be upstairs of Bushwakker's on Dewdney it had crafts and curio shoppes . I also remember a photo studio Mad Cow as well as the Cat's Meow Bakery and Cafe at the back.
The Cat's Meow was a great place.
