Has anyone tried Quatrefoil in Dundas yet? I saw the restaurant listed in En Route's best new Canadian restaurants list in the current issue and now I'm curious.

Had dinner there a couple of weeks ago. Food was outstanding. Service was great too, a rarity in this town for some reason. We had a wonderful evening. We're planning to go back for brunch soon. Highly recommended.

I've been there a couple times, totally agree with Highwater. Top notch. It also got three stars in Toronto Life, only a handful of restaurants have better ratings. It's not ridiculously expensive, $25-40 mains, and lots of nice touches, great service. http://www.quatrefoilrestaurant.com/

I noticed the Courtyard on Locke has become a fine dining spot - that's next on my list. Anyone been?

I've been to the courtyard but I think I just had a coffee so can't speak to the food. They've done a nice job on the reno though, and the service is more streamlined. Nice to have it back.

Thanks for the Quatrefoil recommendations. I'll have to check it out when I'm back in the Hammer.

I owe my parents a nice dinner. I was thinking about Boo's Bistro on James South, but would Quatrefoil be a good alternative?

EDIT: And any other suggestions are more than welcome!

I'd say it depends entirely on your pocketbook. Boo's is great, but Quatrefoil takes it to the next level and is priced accordingly.

I also like 1010 Bistro in Westdale and Incognito on John. I haven't been to 7 Windows, but I hear it's great - probably more in the Quatrefoil category though.

Oh and Bistro Parisien is wonderful too. Might be a nice compromise between Boo's and Quatrefoil.

What highwater said.
Haven't yet been to Quatrefoil, but I intend to go.
I have been to 7 Windows and Boo's.
Really enjoyed Boo's, aside from the bathroom white mosaic tile floor. Ambiance at 7 Windows is amazing, but it is expensive.
1010 Bistro is really good.

I really enjoyed Bistro Parisien when I was there. Great atmosphere, great food, great service, but I want to go somewhere new.

Where's 1010 Bistro?

Incognito on John by Hunter is probably your best best for a high quality dinner at a reasonable price. I've never been disappointed here. Just this past March it was recognized as Hamilton's Restaurant of the Year at the Tourism Hamilton Awards of Excellence.

Incognito...Great Food. Boo's Bistro on James excellent as well. Also...people always forget about...Purple Pear on Barton near Ottawa. Terrible location (but cheap rent I am sure). This place is the best bang for the buck on a meal...fantastic Prime Rib or Steaks etc....at a fraction of Shake's or Lo Presti's etc. Puple Pear used to be located in the Visitors Inn on Main.

The Flavour of Himalaya Restaurant is now open at 43 King William. Tried it today, decent Indian food.

i just noticed a place called "amigos friends" (i think) on king st e. around holton st. its pretty small and has got a sign that says "Grand Opening Soon". I'm not sure if it's been there a while or if this is a new thing.

I'm hoping for some central/south american stuff there, but the menu just seems to have fries and hotdogs and shit like that. anyone know anything about this place? Also, it has a picture on the banner of some of the cast of "Friends" which is awesome.

I love the place. Excellent service, great atmosphere, excellent chef Mark and the food is great. You can get any of the pasta meal except 2 in gluten free. And since my daughter has a gluten problem, that makes my life easier.

The prices aren't bad. Depend what you compare to. It is more expensive than Domino's!

I've always liked La Piazza on James South. Sometimes the service is a bit slow, but I always think it is sort of on purpose and they want you to take your time. It may not be the cheapest in town but it is good value and the portion sizes are quite large. Haven't been in a couple years but the last time I was there they had a fixed price option which was good value too. Chef Mark is great and he is (or was) on the Tourism Hamilton board of directors too, so he is involved in the community.
