If the recently released JPMC doc (which I think dates from June, 2019) is current, this is basically what it looks like.

IMO it's a bore, I'm not apologizing for my emotional response to an inanimate object. That's how I feel about the massing.

Again, in my opinion (I must make that clear), It's a traditional rectangular setback/wedding cake massing structure that is similar to stuff that went up in the 50's just taller with a nicer base/facade. The only thing that looks promising is the height that's why everyone is all excited on here.

Not impressed at all when foreign cities are building stuff like Swiss Re, Shard, SWFC, Shangahi Tower etc that have amazing geometric shapes and take advantage of the latest in CAD technology. A box with setbacks in 2019 is nothing much to get all hyped up over. Not creative here by Foster. His work in London is far nicer and elsewhere too. Either he's passed it, or else NY crappy stingy developers/zoning regulations are the problem here.

And quality of materials will (hopefully) be out of the park here...few if any post war buildings can claim that.

True. The tower is still a bit dull but it's not bad overall.

I generally prefer "modern" skyscrapers, but from the limited visuals we've seen thus far, this building could be a wonderful blend of old and new. It isn't a wedding cake, but it does possess classic NYC setbacks. It isn't a dullard glass box...it has exposed (metal?) structural elements on all sides to break it up a bit. It isn't perfectly symmetrical...different angles provide differences in style and bulk. And perhaps most importantly of all, the base will inject a tremendous amount of style and light and brightness that has never existed. Just look at what BofA or 1VB have done for the street level experience...this will be much the same.

I would be very happy if this were the general design. Add his typical Geometric facade treatments and some sort of spire situation and this would be anything but boring for NYC.

The sheer bulk is whats going to make this a staple in the skyline. Even just based on the diagrams comparing the current 270 Park to the proposed girth of the newer replacement that remains consistent and dominating even up to the 300m mark. 1 Vanderbilt is quite a thick tower, likewise with the ESB, but this is going to make them seem anorexic in comparison with the height to match.

Hopefully once we get rendering, and a look at the design, that it displays an electric nature worthy of praise and admiration to become the next focal point in Midtown. At least something to somewhat mask the damage that Tower Fifth might do in its current iteration.

But hell, what do I know? I threw a three year temper tantrum about One Vanderbilt, based in drawings and renderings, and that building has turned out objectively beautiful. Couldn't have been more wrong about that one
