Proposed reclad of Ottawa-Gatineau's tallest tower, the Peace Tower Terrasses Chaudière.

It turns out that piling bricks 30-storeys high is not a great idea. So to avoid having any more bricks come crashing to the ground at terminal velocity, they're opting for a more resistant material.

The glass cladding is far from final, but assuming all goes well, work should finish by early 2021.

Very sad to see, those are iconic. My pops worked there for many years and I always loved driving up to them.

Yeah I'd actually be sad to see them be reclad as glass, particularly if its to the same standards as most Ottawa office buildings. After parliament I'd say they are the most prominent buildings in Ottawa.

They should do what rental developers do with failing brick facade. Cover it in metal siding!

Amazed how few re-clads create something better. The Winnipeg tower is no exception. Granted the original cladding was beaten to death but, the reclad looks surprisingly dull. I thought it had a lot of promise when they first started.

I agree for the most part, but I think the TD Tower in Halifax is one that can be deemed successful.

Canada's tallest comes to mind as an exception, but for the most part you are correct.

A lot of it has to do with the economics. There is so little economic rationale to perform a re-glaze any more than like for like that the budget is often extremely constrained.

Sault Ste. Marie's city hall is getting reclad. the choice was made because of corrosion, seal failures and air and water barrier deficiencies.

Either I'm going insane or this reclad makes this look more suburban...idk how but it's just that kindof brown concrete look and the plaza that really makes me think of a small bit of urbania.

I not a fan of it either. I like the original colours but will have to see what it looks like once it's completed.

Ahh, now I remember what that above reclad reminded me of. The colouring on the office building looks similar to a office/residential project built in Midtown Toronto in the 90's. I can't find a good photo I've taken of it, or a google image, but it does have a similar colour scheme.
