Because of its location this is one very prominent 190ft tall building. It's impact is much larger than it should be for such a short tower.

Yes. They just started the wood framing on 19th street.

I have been known to harp on the wood framing used on townhouses and low rises in town, but that is not the intent of this question Construct Student. It's purely curiosity. I am wondering:

a) what you think of wood framing as an urban rowhouse construction material;
b) what is the most durable, water resistant sheething to ensure that it suffers the least water damage over time; and
c) why don't townhouse and low-rise multi-family builders use metal studs over wood framing?

Any idea who owns the lot on the other side of Baldwin Park or if there any plans for it?

The former Children's Crisis Center is owned by a developer who has already started demolition for an apartment project on the property.

I believe the rest is owned by the city but it is so contaminated from whatever Baldwin had there that at this point the cost of remediation prevents any development.

Are there any plans for the massive 18th and Callowhil dirt lot just south of Baldwin? Who owns it?

Isn't that what Parkway just addressed?

Yes. Look at Parkway's response above. The issue is contamination. The cost for remediation is costly. Would need at least two 400 footers here to make up the cost for remediation. Would the near neighbors allow that?

It can't stay a lot forever, can it??? I really hope not. I live in the area so have a vested interest in filling this one. I think there is a good amount of high rise in the area that maybe they could get the go ahead on towers like Summer's mentioned to make up the cleanup cost.

Gotta believe those tiny matchstick dwarf rental houses are just placeholders for the next few years, after which they will be replaced by another high rise should the market warrant one.
