Well I walk by these blocks most every day. M Street apartments/office/grocery is occupied on the east side of 8th Avenue, Landes is under construction on the south end of the block on the west side of 8th and 7th and Madison is in demolition mode for the entire west half of the Landes block. This leaves the NE quadrant of the Landes block as a parking lot for the time being. Maybe I don't understand what is meant by the "middle" of the block across from M Street?
Well Well. I was confused. I meant M Street. LOL. Sorry for the confusion. It's right behind M Street on 9th Avenue, on the west side of the street, in the middle of that side.

I paid special attention this morning to this block. There's nothing visibly going on behind the M Street building. Just Vito's restaurant on the corner of 9th and Madison with apts above, then two more older apartment buildings south of Vito's the fill the rest of the half-block.
Demolition on the 7th and Madison site made progress this weekend. Big chunks of the brick apartment building are gone. It's surprising the whole building isn't gone but they seemed to have had a crane with clamshell bucket on it for demo as of early this morning. Tonight there was a long reach hydraulic "claw" machine that seems way more effective than a crane with clamshell.
Vancouver almost never has setbacks anymore, and hasn't for many years. The towers themselves may be setback from the street, but they sit atop podiums that are built to the sidewalk. And many of the new condos built in the last 15 years have walls that rise 5+ stories right from the sidewalk. Walk down Pacific Blvd. and you'll see what I mean.
Thanks for the pics. For the Westlake II site, a larger tower-like 25 stories would look really good there. Or a twin condo developments somewhere on First Hill, but ohh well.
Five construction cranes visible from 6'th and Madison.
What crane is for what project? Obviously the one furthest to the left (and closest to the camera) is the 7th and madison office building (behind which is the brand new M Street appartments), The smaller one looks like its just a second on the 7th and madison site. What are the other ones? Whats the project with the double elevator cores (harborview expansion?).
The one that's furthest east is for the Swedish Orthopedic wing. The ones just across I-5 are for 7'th and Madison (tall) and Landes (short). The double-core is Harborview Expansion (phase II) and the other is Skyline.
