Sandusky, OH

Sandusky is a city of 25,000 on the shores of Lake Erie, in Erie County, Ohio. It lies halfway between Cleveland and Toledo, about an hour from each. Population peaked at 32,500 in 1970.

Downtown Sandusky does contain an unfortunate amount of empty buildings, but it has a very large downtown for a city it's size, and a great lakefront location.

Sandusky is one of my favorite small cities in Ohio. It has attractive residential areas with neat stone buildings that I have not gotten around to photographing in my two visits. Today it's just a walk around downtown.

The very cool Erie County courthouse.

I honestly never cared for Sandusky except for the intentional Masonic design layout:

Building stock looks great, and kudos for not shoehorning anything about Sandusky's most famous attraction into the thread

They have an impressive array of buildings downtown. How does it meet the lake? Is there a park, a beach, a harbor, or something else?

It's actually on Sandusky Bay and it doesn't have a beach (unless you want to count that one on Cedar Point). A little harbor park + warehouses/docks/port.

Cool looking fire escape, looks like multi level out- houses connected by covered stairs. Streets look exceptionally wide. I kinda like this town.

Where's Cedar Point?

Seriously though, Sandusky looks pretty good! Thanks for a great thread, Thundertubs!

Too bad there isn't some better connection between downtown and the amusement park. When Cedar Point closes up, I just wanna finish off the day at the bar. Would be cool if downtown had a bunch of restaurants and stuff for people to go to.

Doesn't look that bad.

What's the deal with that floral clock? Do they replace the date with new plants every day or something?

I actually came in this thread with the intention of telling this. Jerk.

Anway, I've actually been to Cabana Jacks. How many super-sweet forumers can say that?

Nice work

I've heard of Sandusky, so, it is nice to see it. Downtown definitely feels quite substantial even if it is empty. Thanks!

As well as much of Michigan, Western PA and probably areas south of Ohio too. I read an article years ago about where their traffic originates and many of it is surrounding states + national visitors and even some international visitors.

Never saw the town though. neat little place.

I enjoyed going to kelly's Island on a ferry when i was younger. As well as Cedar Point which blows kennywood out of the water. Speaking of water, they have a great waterpark too!

Good show.
