It's a shame they didn't use this as an opportunity to renovate the Maple Leaf Lounge. It's now one of their most outdated MLLs out there.

Does anybody know if/when they intend to start work on extending the new terminal design to the older part of the air-side terminal?

It would be nice if there was a outdoor viewing area on the flat roof of the second level, accessible from the observation deck on the 3/F. They have several of these at Tokyo Narita airport:

This is where you watched the planes at YHZ Halifax back in the '60s. A garden/patio area where there was only a 3’ high fence separating you from the ramp and the whine of a Viscount’s Rolls-Royce Dart Turboprops or the smell of the kerosene from those new DC-9s! You could also go through a 10 cent turnstile and climb the stairs up to an open Observation Deck.
