Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) Campus
KPMB Architects (Waterloo, ON)

The CIGI campus transforms the historic Seagram distillery, the only site in Canada surrounded by three Governor-General-Award-winning projects, into a think tank on international governance. The design presents a contemporary interpretation of the academic quad with three interconnected buildings organized around a courtyard. A two-storey glass pavilion with an entrance canopy and bell tower marks the main public entrance and contains the auditorium. The massing and expression were designed to relate to the heritage context of the area’s 19th-century industrial fabric. A key element in Waterloo’s revitalization vision, the project demonstrates the benefit of architecture.

Siemens Middle East Headquarters by Sheppard Robson
May 22, 2014

Building a Sustainable Future

By 2025, Abu Dhabi’s Masdar City (planned by Foster and Partners) will have 50,000 inhabitants and be the world’s first zero-carbon community. Sheppard Robson’s latest addition to the plan, Siemens Middle East Headquarters, is one of the project’s most sustainable buildings to date – realised at a cost of a conventional office – and is a welcome antidote to the sprawling landscapes of glass towers that have become synonymous with the region’s development.

Swedbank Headquarters, Stockholm, Sweden
Simplicity and transparency abound at new 3XN-designed Swedbank Headquarters

This week, a new 3XN-designed headquarters for Swedbank was inaugurated in Landsvägen, Sundbyberg. An estimated 2,500 employees will move into the 45,000 sq m headquarters in the Stockholm suburb of Sundbyberg, 5km from the city centre. The new Swedbank HQ has been designed as one of Sweden’s most modern and innovative office buildings, focusing on Scandinavian simplicity, transparency and dynamic social environments.

The design springs from Swedbank’s core values: openness, simplicity, care and durability. Thus, the architecture is based directly on the organisation’s profile as a solid, financially sound and modern bank, interpreted through 3XN’s philosophy on behaviour and architecture.

EPFL Quartier Nord, SwissTech Convention Center, Ecublens
Richter Dahl Rocha & Associés architectes
May 23, 2014

Situated at the northern entrance to the EPFL campus, the SwissTech Convention Center becomes a new landmark, a clearly identifiable reference point in the landscape. The metallic shell, closely following the internal spatial configuration of the optimised main auditorium, seems to float over the glazed facades that enclose both the auditorium and the foyer, allowing a maximum of daylight to penetrate the inner spaces.

Miami’s Multi-Modal Transportation Hub Is The First Of Three To Connect South Florida To Orlando
By: Marija Bojovic | June - 5 - 2014

SOM’s design for All Aboard Florida’s new multi-modal hub for Miami is finally revealed. In addition to the Miami hub, SOM is also planning and designing All Aboard Florida’s passenger stations in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. All Aboard Florida’s 235-mile network of rail lines will connect South Florida to Orlando by utilizing the current rail infrastructure for the Florida East Coast Corridor between Miami and the Space Coast and creating new tracks into Central Florida. The transformational infrastructure project will provide a vital new service for Florida residents, business people, and visitors and eliminate more than three million car trips from the region’s roadways each year.

Zhejiang University School of Management, Hangzhou, China
Zhejiang University School of Management reflects changing attitudes to learning

Woods Bagot’s first major education project in mainland China is a new School of Management of 55,000 sqm at Zhejiang University. The institution was founded in 1897, making it one of the earliest modern academies of higher education in China.

The Zhejiang University School of Management’s new tertiary campus looks to promote wellbeing and nurture the next generation of business leaders through an inspirational green learning landscape.

As an educational facility for the next generation of leaders in China, the design responds to generational change, with spatial decisions made based around fostering the most effective environment for students so they can be at peak performance while learning.
