That is a great photo DesignerVoodoo. You can actually see the workers down on the tracks preparing for the temporary platform, where the spans will be built.

^ An explosion of activity on site. I love it.

Had a better view of track level action coming in today, but you can still see some of it here...

Posillico has moved in a large rotary drill, caissons and air compressors to the southern site. Serious work should be starting soon.

So is this tower (the 1216 ft. one) going up where this picture was taken? Is it proposed or is it committed?

Don't know what you mean, or to what picture you refer. But this is the site plan.

What I was asking (or was trying to ask but failed at doing so lol) is if the 1216 ft tower is ready for construction (as opposed to it being just a proposal)

They're currently building the platform, and then it can commence construction.

You can't build any of the three towers without the platform.

Oh yes, I know that, I was just wondering if they have committed to building as soon as the platform is done.

Forgive my ignorance here, as I haven't paind too much heed to this particular project; but are they actually going to stick with those lackluster, plebeian twins?

Anyone who can tell me here and now that what I just saw in that video was strictly a massing model has my eternal gratitude.

What is shown in that video is just a massing model. Eternal gratitude earned.

The video animation merely explains how the construction will happen.

They will not build an office tower without a tenant signed, leaving the potential that the residential tower will go up first.

When will somebody finally change the drawing for this building to reflect the recent design change? It has been the same drawing for I think years!

There's nothing to change it to. They'll get around to it when we get a new design. The old proposal was for a 66-story tower and and 60-story tower. With the current proposal, either of the towers could be taller than the other. They're both 60+ story towers. And there is a 3rd, large residential tower planned.

From the April 2013 CB4 newsletter...

BROOKFIELD OFFICE PROPERTIES - CONSTRUCTION OF THEIR WEST DEVELOPMENT

We understand that the current construction activity, which involves heavy rock and concrete removal, creates unwanted noise. Phase I work is being done to build a platform over the rail yard along Ninth Avenue between W. 31st and W. 33rd Streets. Unfortunately, some of this work can only be done after hours when it won’t disrupt train operations by Amtrak, New Jersey Transit and the Long Island Rail Road. This work is estimated to take four months.

Beginning now, Brookfield will send out weekly emails on Tuesday detailing the after-hours work schedule for the week ahead. If you know anyone who would like to receive these emails please forward their address to negonzalez@cb.nyc.gov. Brookfield’s key point of contact is Henry Caso, Vice-President, Manhattan West Construction, and he may be reached at (212) 560-0746 or via email at Manhattanwest.Development@brookfield.com.

I've often wondered, these sorts of messages - are they very common? Instances when developers and contractors work with the community to make amends for noise, disturbances, etc.? I've always felt a bit of pride whenever I see things like this.

I don't imagine developers take such things into consideration in China.
