No surprise in those stats..........Western Canadian cities dominate as do those with high Native populations.

I figure the reason why larger CMAs are often dubbed "Murder Capital" is because there is more consistency in their statistics.
With the smaller CMAs, there were years where Thunder Bay or Regina (ex.) would have a rate of 5.0/100,000 one year and then 1.0/100,000 the next.

10 year (2006-2015) average for homicide rates in 9 largest CMAs, 5 year (2011-2015) in brackets:
1. Winnipeg 3.6 (3.7)
2. Edmonton 3.1 (3.0)
3. Calgary 2.1 (1.9)
4. Vancouver 2.0 (1.8)
5. Toronto 1.6 (1.4)
6. Montreal 1.3 (1.2)
7. Hamilton 1.3 (1.2)
8. Ottawa 1.1 (0.8)
9. Quebec 0.6 (0.6)

5 CMAs with highest average homicide rate, 10 year (5 year)
1. Winnipeg 3.6 (3.7)
2. Thunder Bay 3.6 (4.6)
3. Regina 3.2 (3.1)
4. Edmonton 3.1 (3.0)
5. Saskatoon 2.6 (2.4)

And for comparison a city from our neighbours to the south;

"St. Louis AND East St. Louis, Illinois:

Forget Chicago, New Orleans and Detroit, old St. Loo has the highest homicide rate in the United States.

The FBI says the area has a staggering murder rate of 59.3 per 100,000 people. Rape and robbery rates are also sky high.

And despite the Windy City’s exploding reputation for bloodshed, St. Louis’ murder rate is double that of Chicago’s."

Those stats are somewhat misleading, as the city of St.Louis only accounts for a small percentage of the population (just over 10%) of the overall St.Louis metro area. Most of the poor and disadvantaged live in St.Louis, while the middle class and wealthier residents live in the suburbs. Detroit and Baltimore would have the same problem, when factoring a more accurate account of the murder rates of an urban area.

For example, if the Winnipeg murder rate was based on the following boundaries, it would likely be considerably higher:

-Inkster Ave to the North
-Assiniboine River to the South
-Red River to the East
-St.James St/Keewatin St to the West

I would love to see the murder rates of US metropolitan areas.

Body found today at a construction site in, wait for it....

Okotoks.

Apparently dumping a body is something one can do in Okotoks.

The stats are much more grim for Winnipeg if the former city limits are used (North End, West End, Downtown, Elmwood, River Heights), which have a collective population of 200,000. The rates for the last 5 years would be:

2012: 10.3
2013: 6.2
2014: 10.3
2015: 7.7
2016: 9.8

Still not St. Louis but comparable to Minneapolis.

We also just had our 14th yesterday
http://www.chrisd.ca/2017/07/17/mans.../#.WW0rJojyvIU
And of those 14, only one has been outside of the former city limits.

I wonder if Edmonton is any closer to catching that Serial Killer that has been dumping bodies in Strathcona and Leduc counties for the last 20 years.

One of the serial killers has been caught and convicted (Svekla). There is another serial killer out there.

What is an agglomeration? Murders in this thread are reported based upon municipal boundaries.

In the case: the territory patrolled by the Longueuil PD. The city of Longueuil plus a number of other cities on the south shore of Montreal.

The same goes for Montreal, the SPVM covers the entire island, not just the city of Montreal.

So are murders on here reported differently for different provinces - it would appear that things are reported differently in parts of the province of Quebec.
