Any height at all would have put a nice exclamation point on the western skyline.

Had the opportunity here for developers to get together and really do something special on these blocks of University City, much like the developers did with the Center City skyscraper core in the 80's-90's.

Instead we are going to get a hodgepodge of independent buildings with no thought of how they will mesh with their surroundings.

Are you guys forgetting about the 25 floor, 278 foot tower literally one block south of this tower about to go up? And the 28 floor, 320 foot tower going up two blocks east of this? And the 25 floor, 279 foot tower two blocks east of that? There will be plenty of height on the western edge of the skyline.

Although it's really infill height summersm. The 3 Harnwell dorms are 300 feet and even they get completely lost. They have virtually no impact on the skyline. 400' is where you start to say whoa whoa what is going here in this city.

Just thought there could have been more of a collaborative effort over in University City to really do something special, dynamic, well planned. Like how they planned the center city skyline core, albeit this would be on a smaller scale.

What we are getting is 4 singular shortish towers going up haphazardly.

One is an 11 story box, another has its main facade(3601 Market) going N-S instead of E-W it actually turns it's side on the main E-W city skyline core , Lancaster Square is almost on a diagonal angle.

With all that investment happening at the same time the possibility was there to do something off-the-hook and truly extend the skyline to the west.

I believe that is happening, through cira south. That is a huge project in the scope of Philadelphia. These smaller 300 ft type buildings is a start to me, a sign that Philadelphia is in the need to go vertical once again in its expansions.

Even in the boom prior to the meltdown there were not this many projects breaking ground and rising in Philadelphia. This is truly a huge step forward, esp. in this part of town.

Can you imagine if Market East added 3 or 4 300ft types, I think it would change the city dramatically.

Again thanks for the great pic Musicman!

I think this has made much more of an impact than any of us expected.

Taken from the Schuylkill Banks bridge near the dog park. The zoomed out version also shows the boardwalk under construction, Chestnut Square, and the LeBow College of Business Building. University City is definitely coming together. I can't wait until the new apartment building at 36th and Market fills another empty space.

I am very impressed with the way this building is showing up in the Ucity skyline. It adds some real density and is visible from quite a distance.

I was coming over the Walt Whitman quite a few times this past week on some nice clear days and it really is fun seeing UCity skyline grow with multiple cranes up. This building esp. stood out.

Beats a parking lot but . . . . . this is one boring bland building.

Looks like something from a Dallas freeway office park c. 1983.

It's hard to imagine how they could not have come up with moderately more interesting exterior.

Honestly, Southstar and 1900 Arch are kind of fascinating by comparison.

I utterly and completely disagree, this building is quality.

Not trying to be argumentative (sp?), but what is it about the design that you think is quality? The materials are fine, sure, but just applied in an extremely dull and generic way, IMO. It meets the street in a particularly dead way.
