I didn't know that Marina City had an actual marina. Today, I learned.

i'm sure when a lot of people see this building in the skyline and then see it at street level for the first time they're like, "wtf?!!"

One of my favorite skyscraper lobbies:

111 S Wacker

blogspot.com

aiachicago.org

That spiral ceiling is the bottom of the parking ramp leading up into the garage in the building. Beautiful.

It's a pretty friggin big marina too, I think it was originally designed to hold like 100 boats or something though I'm sure that number is greatly reduced now that boats are probably 3x the size on average as they used to be.

it's actually a pretty small marina. it has slips for about 20 power boats. when it was being designed, it was envisioned that they would utilize a boat lift and out of water storage to hold hundreds of boats down at the marina level, but that never came to fruition.

the marina is cool though. it's where i launch my kayak when i go paddling out on the river. it's so cool to take an elevator to the base of your condo tower and go kayaking right from there.

Ah, I got that tidbit from "This Is Marina City" which would obviously have been somewhat out of date as it was made right after the towers were completed.

Pretty freaking sweet none the less. Is there another skyscraper in the world other than River City and Marina City that has a marina built right into the plan? I'd imagine there are several in Dubai?
