Cool! Thanks for posting.

I was wondering whether it would be on the Homer side or the Richards side.

Comments:

- As others have mentioned, the foliage will be hard / expensive to maintain if they are in silvacuture cells. I wonder if they can do it old school with vines?

- the ground plane on the corner seems open enough that the City won't complain about views of the Library Square complex being blocked / hidden when walking east on Georgia.

- I wonder if a twin is a possibility on the Richards site?

- in terms of a blocky stacked design - I think this takes the thunder away from the VAG relocation.

It's like a whole building made up of Telus Garden overhangs...

Looks like its butted right up to the sidewalk on Georgia St. -
would be nicer if there was a setback / alcove at grade.

ambitious design. should be interesting to see if the execution is like the design. seems too over the top to real though... the glass floors, water, so much green. I'll believe it when its done.

Odd thing is that all of Amazon's building in Seattle seem to be efficient rectangular boxes (apart from the spheres).

A new spin on Vancouver

Great to see the info is out on this one! I had heard that the project was something really unique and great, but I never would have been able to imagine this. It's wonderful to see another different style being brought into Vancouver.

Seriously how can anyone thinks this looks good. It's a chaotic mess of overly reflective glass and tacky """""Greenery"""", in the middle of an established city.

I'll be sad to see this building gone, it's a miracle it's still there but I suppose it's only a matter of time:

Didn't even know it was a heritage building from the awful paint job on it.

How cheap are they to use a poor quality Google Streetview for their rendering?

Is this now the Amazon building? As noted, there is space for a second tower closer to Telus Garden. I don't mind the design, but would be nice to know the plans for the adjacent site too.

I disagree wholeheartedly. Mainly because of our height restrictions, we need to think outside the box with mid-rise forward design. And this my friend, IMO, is thinking outside many boxes......pun intended.

Smile an added dimension to the CBD along Georgia

In the picture above, 400 WGeorgia has an 'eccentric' quality that pulls the adjacent street geography together.
From the industrial-looking CBC, to the Colosseum-inspired VPL to the (?) Telus building in the right of the picture this building makes a statement that this end of Georgia is coming to a close, but not without fanfare and originality. point in its favor is the large "green" element it adds to the streetscape.
This contrasts with the more formal "Georgia Canyon," and is sort of a balance of the 'imaginationfest' that West Georgia and the hill up to the CBD (or home from it) seems to want to develop into. This eastern street end is a different, a bit lower in height, "funkier" (gaaak that word) ... more original and "off the wall', but equally impressive potential streetscape, IMO.

There's more information about the 1913 building on Changing Vancouver. It started life as a car dealership, was used as a cigar factory for only a couple of years, and then reverted to a car showroom for many more.

Why would Amazon build an entire tower? In Vancouver? They already have enough towers under construction right now

This is an open forum, and I feel that it is good that what we share and discuss actually finds its way into other media outlets. As long as people are not directly lifting pictures or copying direct verbatim of our comments, I see no problems.

Also this information was already available to the public from other sources. So not everything is taken from this site.

I didn't say there was a problem, just that the info was already here.

The building that Budget is in COULD look a lot better without the crappy paint job and is one of the few remaining heritage structures in the area and could be a great asset to a new development (much like the Homer Block) but yeah, that's pretty much the Vancouver way, right?
