The 197-room hotel has the potential to dramatically transform a long-neglected downtown street corner and narrow sidewalk taken over by a crowded VIA bus stop on South St. Mary’s Street.

“I feel San Antonio is ready for an architecturally significant hotel (like this),” said.

A bump up in height.

Developers plan 24-story Hilton hotel downtown

Quote:
Developers are proposing to tear down the Sullivan Building on Commerce Street and replace it with a 24-story Canopy by Hilton hotel.

The city Historic and Design Review Commission on Wednesday will decide whether to approve the hotel, which will include 197 rooms and will span 137,927 square feet, according to city documents.

In January of last year, the commission granted approval for an 18-story hotel on the property under the condition that the developer make changes to the design and come back for further approval.

The project would preserve the building at 155 East Commerce, known as the Dwyer Building and the Fishmarket Building.

This will be an interesting one to watch. I'll be curious to see how it looks on the skyline.

They've removed the covered sidewalk that was next to the construction site on St. Mary's and put in this larger barrier. Trucks are pulling in here to haul away dirt.

Boring holes into the side as part of foundation work I guess?

Clearing out the pit. (pardon my fat finger).

S.A. is one of America's unique, historic gems, like Charleston, Savannah, Newport, etc. It's great to see it get polished!

I can't wait for this baby to rise! I've always been nervous something crappy would go in this spot and ruin the Aztec.
