Good stuff!

Something about ruins has always been of interest to me. I can't get enough.

What's strange is that at some point in our future, our greatest achievements that we think will always be here, will be seen as ruins or significant human heritage sites as well.

Great thread!

Was there in 2000 (fortunately in October, when the weather was cool) and was able to see the Pope (from a distance) in front of St. Peter's. Unfortunately, we didn't climb to the top of St. Peter's. Saw all the usual touristy things plus other things my sister knew about. She lived there at the time.

Everyone should see Rome at some point in their lives. It can have a profound effect on one's life.

Fantastic city and country
What did you think about the graffiti , every Italian city I've been to has been covered in it.
I like graffiti the artistic mural type not the tagging that seems to be everywhere.
Anyway great pics

Awesome pictures of Rome.

I went to Italy on my honeymoon years ago and it stranded out by a very far margin as my favorite city in Italy. The Roman col, the Parthenon the Vatican

So much to see. I should have spent a week there instead of only 4 days and 3 nights.

I will plan to go again some day, it is a life goal of mine this time though I will not chicken out and make it to the very top of St. Peters next time.

It was scary at the time.... We couldn't do it.

To be honest but with surprise, Rome is really rare on this forum and this is one of the boutiques.

Especially with those street shots, true Rome is amazingly presented.

I was hoping the graffiti problem had been cleaned up by now (I was there 18 years ago). Florence and Naples were the same in that regard. Still loved all those cities, though.

I wasn't too surprised by the graffiti, since I read about it on a lot of different travel sites and blogs. There was definitely much more graffiti in Naples though. Also, Rome wasn't as dirty as others were making it out to be.

It can feel a little bit claustrophobic in the spiral tunnel of stairs to the top, but I think there is an elevator that can take you at least part of the way.
