Thanks.
Maybe the notches in the floorplate surrounding the area are for installation of a steel support structure?
But the protruding elements within the box don't seem to be very big, unless they will be filled out with steel as well.

huge news for this one: http://www.techvibes.com/blog/amazon...ers-2013-10-22

Amazon plans to open a gargantuan office in Vancouver, Techvibes has learned.
...
According to Matthew Carlson, an Associate Vice President with Colliers International, Amazon has committed to a staggering 91,000 square feet in the Garden, and may take up to 156,000 square feet "as required." Assuming a conservative 150 square feet per office worker—well in line with most modern technology offices—Amazon's office could house well over 1,000 workers.

Didn't amazon open something small in Yaletown a few years back? Is this an expansion of that operation or something else?

Considering they are well consolidated in Seattle, I'm not sure why they'd open here... same time zone and all, what's the benefit?

Not particularly gargantuan (it's only about 1/10 the building) but great news none the less.

As to why they would do it, I would assume it's the site of their Canadian operations. It's close to Seattle and from what I know they do their distribution out of Vancouver so it makes sense.

Does anyone know whether the old building will be re-glazed or at the very least scrubbed squeaky clean?

This has been an open secret in the market for almost a year now.

Amazon opened a 200,000 sq.ft distribution warehouse (fulfillment centre) recently in Delta.

The are establishing Vancouver as their western Canadian base of operations (Mississauga in the east). Keep in mind, if Amazon was a Canadaian corporation, it would be, by far, our largest with over 60 billion a year US in revenues. It is a huge company.

I like that they have an option for an additional 156,000 sq.ft of office space!

Great news! I don't know exactly how many employees Amazon has in Vancouver, but they currently have at least 3-4 locations in and around Downtown (not counting the one in Delta) at the moment, so it definitely makes sense for them to centralize people in just one location. Hope that means also increasing the headcount and they have been hiring a lot recently.

Right now Amazon has the distribution centre in Delta and a a smallish development (software) centre in town. They are recruiting like mad for the development centre right now. No word if they plan to grow it to a scale that would require +/-100,000 sq ft. Right now all of their sales and marketing team for Canada is still based in Seattle. There is some speculation that they may be considering moving that team here, though pure speculation is all that is at this point.

They are so big and growing so quickly that if the over leased some 10's of thousands of square feet in vancouver it would be like a drop in the ocean. They may have just tied up the space while they figure out their strategy for Canada.

This Amazon office is not only their Canadian operations. It's a big engineering office. Amazon is one of the biggest American IT companies with its leading cloud service and high performance payment systems. This Vancouver office will be mostly software and systems engineering. Their business operations centre is in Toronto.

They are currently in Yaletown and are moving gradually to another downtown location.

Amazon commits to office space for approximately 1,000 workers in new Telus building downtown, report says

Amazon will open an office in Vancouver with capacity for up to 1,000 workers, a local tech news site is reporting.

The report from TechVibes says the online retailing giant has committed to 91,000 square feet of space in the new Telus Garden, a $750-million complex under construction at Georgia and Richards in downtown Vancouver.

TechVibes notes that this is nearly three times the space of Hootsuite's new Mount Pleasant office.

Yep it is. Great view, thanks for the update.

This guy is looking big, will have the girth of a proper office building, especially when viewed from the east.

They have started installing windows on the Richards side. I was by a few days ago and I honestly can't remember what it looked like lol. It wasn't anything too reflective though.
