Yes people come here to discuss development and construction, but they also come here to express their point of views on things (like me for Wilmington). You even are having a whole discussion on what you think of that street project in Chadds Ford. So don't tell me that you cannot discuss your opinions on things here, because you are too.

Believe It or Not, Revel Might Reopen Soon as AC Ocean Walk

Quote:
According to Moody’s, a Colorado company has purchased Revel and intends to reopen it in May 2018 as a hotel and casino named AC Ocean Walk. The sale price was reportedly $200 million, a steal when you consider that Revel was built for an estimated $2.6 billion. The company has also applied for a gaming license with the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.

The plan for AC Ocean Walk includes nearly 1,400 hotel rooms, 2,000 slot machines, 100 gaming tables, a spa, a bunch of restaurants, and all of the other things that go along with a giant hotel-casino on the Boardwalk.

^Getting PECO to bury lines might as well be a challenge to NASA to build a Neptune space colony...

The city should require undergrounding with all new construction and/or sidewalk reconstruction. Instead we have what otherwise would be a large amount of very attractive new construction behind a thicket of aerial wires and what looks like a substation bolted onto to the front of them. That's no way to run a first-world country. Just think how much better Phila would look without them.

Just a question of interest, if Wilmington, Delaware was home to a university like the University of Delaware, do you think it would've grown more and become more popular?

Also, any news on any new Wilmington projects?

Also, if anyone is interested in any Wilmington Airport news, after emailing them about development and suggestions for attracting commercial airlines, this is what they've said:

Quote:
Hello, Jonesrmj. Thank you for your support of the airport. We're always working with airlines and others in the industry to explore opportunities for new, sustainable airline service over the long term. The improvements you've observed and read about are for the progress of the airport overall as a first-class aviation facility, and will better serve our existing customers, as well as those we're working to attract. The airport itself – and the passenger experience – always received high marks from the traveling public and the airlines alike. The latest improvements are intended to enhance those qualities. …And you’re correct, they haven’t gone unnoticed by both the BizAv community and the airlines.

We think you’ll see new developments unfold at the airport over the next year or so. We’ll keep you posted about those on our website at www.FlyILG.com, our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/FlyWilmILG, and our Twitter page at www.twitter.com/FlyWilmILG. Stay tuned.

Thank you for writing, and for the depth and breadth of your comments. We truly appreciate it.

Regards.

Wilmington Airport Staff

Vanguard breaking ground on building large enough for 1,600 employees

Quote:
The Vanguard Group will break ground Monday on an office building situated on the 87-acre Malvern plot acquired five years ago from Pfizer.

The 240,000-square-foot, four-story building will accommodate up to 1,600 employees, which Vanguard calls crew, and will offer 300 collaborative working spaces. It will be constructed next to two existing Vanguard buildings on the same plot and connect the three structures, which are situated just west of the investment management giant's pre-existing campus.

Paul Begin, Vanguard's head of global corporate real estate and facilities management who originally announced the new building at a July Philadelphia Business Journal event, said it will be filled with a combination of exisiting crew and new hires from anticipated growth in the coming years.

"We've been blessed with success, which has translated in return for investors," Begin said. "So we need to add more staff."

He did not offer any specific projection for how many new employees would be hired in the coming years. Vanguard currently employs 12,500 people on its 13-building Malvern campus and more than 17,000 globally. Once completed, the three-building Malvern West campus will accommodate 3,000 of those crew.

Begin said Vanguard has an aggressive construction schedule that will begin in the first quarter of 2018, with hopes of occupying it by the second half on 2019.

Good for the region. I wish they'd expand further into the city, but I'm glad they are further tying themselves to the Delaware Valley by adding more space. It's a vote of confidence for the whole area. More well paid jobs is a plus!

Suburban corporate expansions continue

Chemours breaks ground on STAR Campus discovery hub

Quote:
Chemours officially broke ground Monday on a $150 million research and development headquarters that will bring more than 300 jobs to the University of Delaware’s STAR Campus.

First announced in October, the 312,000-square-foot Chemours Discovery Hub is expected to open in early 2020.

“This is much more than a brick-and-mortar story; it’s about the discoveries to come that just might change or at least shape the future,” Chemours CEO Mark Vergnano said. “The Chemours Discovery Hub will serve as a gathering place — a center for activity where vision, ambition, intelligence and creative energy will flourish — not just for years, but for decades to come.”

The facility, which will house laboratories and some office space, will employ approximately 325 scientists and other personnel, all of whom will be relocated from more than a dozen other Chemours facilities in New Castle County.

While the new headquarters won’t create additional jobs right away, Vergnano said the company has plenty of room to expand.

"The whole idea here is for us to grow,” he said. “I believe there will be new jobs over time."

Wait so Chemours is leaving Wilmington? Great! Now we've lost another company! A very important one! But then again, parking can be expensive in Wilmington, crime is very high, wage taxes. These are all reasons why business don't want to be in Wilmington, and it's going to hurt. Especially since in order to modernize buildings like the Dupont Building to make them attractable to modern-day tenants, it's just too expensive or some other crap excuse like that. It may be expensive, but you are telling me that you would rather see offices leave and watch the city fail vs spending a good amount and watch the city grow with offices and get that money back through growth. Also focus on the crime hotspots! It's great that they want to add street life to downtown, but I can almost guarantee that if they focus on the crime and actually do something about it, that would automatically make Wilmington more attractable for businesses.

I am very excited about this project. The only thing I wish is that they had a parking structure proposed, especially for the train station.
