Walked by this the other day, and reaffirmed that it's my favorite U/C supertall in NYC. The MoMA connection is great as well, because MoMA is one of the best museums in NY.

This is one of those rare towers that I don't mind waiting for.
For me, this is on my very short list of all time skyscraper favs spanning across every city on the planet.

Between the Chrysler and 53W53, I'm not sure which one is more iconic.
Thoughts?

I honestly don't know how they can build a complex tower like this in such tight and narrow space.
NYC construction workers are amazing!

Probably Chrysler, as it was the first 1,000 footer and has had its place in the New York skyline since 1930. 53W53 is a formidable building in its own right, but when it's done, there will be so many buildings in Midtown that are taller than it, meaning it won't have that "icon" status that Chrysler & ESB had for so long.

Is it the construction workers or the architects who are amazing?

This tower will be iconic for its design. Its not the height that makes this one special, though that doesnt hurt. Let the other, taller towers battle for height in Manhattan. This one is something more special.

This building is great, but it's got nothing on the Chrysler.

I think you're right, but buildings often need 10 or 20 years to come into their own, meaning in 20 years we might think this far surpasses the Chrysler Building. I doubt it but you just never know.

I tend to agree. Sometimes even a shorter time frame. Look at 99 Church. Looks as it was always there and integrated beautifully. I expect the same for 220 CPS and 520 Park.

With Vanderbilt, its design seems quasi ESB like. I think that was somewhat the motivation for the design (the ESB). Its bulk, its crown, and the setbacks at the top.

With Verre, it will be an instant classic. More So than One57 which IMO, is not spectacular although it demands respect, because it is the godfather of the 57th street boom.

I don't know how they do it. My palms are sweating just looking at those last two pics.

great shot! The worker is tied off to the building and then the pry bar he is using is tied off to him. Nobody wants a 3' pry bar flying around 25 stories up in the air.

I really hope this tower stands out and is seen as it should be being that is it going to be so incredibly iconic. It is sad though that I still can seethe a bit over the 200 foot ridiculous reduction and remember the name Amanda Burden after all these years *gotta get over it* Still going to be an awesome 'this is NEW YORK' tower.

This is one of those few designs that is so good that it could stand to be built in one or two more locations, perhaps with some height variation so its not exactly the same. Its certainly been done before and with FAR lesser designs.

I honestly think the original 1155' version (pre-1250') would be perfect in Denver, both in terms of height and complementing/suggesting the Rocky mountains. Do it!
