It would be nice to see them do this all the way down Queen Street, do it in phases, revamp sidewalks, street lights, the road, remove the lones, I think it would be a great idea to do it now.

From today. They are beginning to work on level six now.

The new street lighting has been installed on Queen Street. It's frustrating the old power poles are still there, but they should be gone sometime this winter.

From Huddle: http://huddle.today/fivefive-queen-d...r-condo-gahan/

FiveFive Queen Has Already Sold Half the Condos in the Downtown Moncton Complex

Quote:
[...]

Hennessey is aiming to sell the remaining condos before the complex opens in the fall.

He says more mixed-use condos like FiveFive will pop up in the future and that Moncton will also need more hotel rooms.

“[Moncton is] moving towards where it needs to get to, from an urban point of view, for an evolution,” he said. “You look at projects like the Hyatt that was just announced. These are companies that are investing a significant amount of capital into a market. We’ve done our own research about what we have at FiveFive, and we’re very confident that the market can absorb many [more hotel and condo projects like this].”
Let's hope so!

This may explain why one of the FiveFive investors has purchased the old Acadian Line terminal, and that there are rumours of an avant garde development in the offing.

More Hotel rooms? But the "official" Moncton Hotel group has said Moncton's got too many hotel rooms already.

Bravo to this developer for putting out such a good product and recognizing a need that others may not be as eager to satisfy.

I love the touch of sarcasm.

isn't "but we got too many hotel rooms" the Motto of the Moncton Hotel group. If I remember corectly it's the same thing that is said over, and over every time a new hotel is planned for any location in the Greater Moncton Area.

If by any chance the old Acadian lines lot has been purchased for a potential 55 Queen street equals project. I will welcome it with open arms.

Just got back from a couple nights in Moncton with the girlfriend - had a good time checking out some local dining and drinking establishments.

We had a pretty good view of FiveFive Queen from our hotel room:

Silly photographer used an awfully wide field of view to photograph that nice WRX!

Oh, but the building is okay too, I suppose.

FiveFive Queen - current status.

The 8th floor is almost 50% done, so the final stature of the building is now readily apparent and we now have a good idea of the impact of this building on the downtown skyline.

One thing I have noticed in the last couple of weeks is that you can now see FiveFive Queen as part of the downtown skyline as viewed from Champlain Place. The impact on the skyline is not huge (I wish the building had been 10-12 storeys) but it is there........

There will be a ninth floor penthouse at FiveFive, but it will be set back and I don't think it will make much difference to the overall impact of the building.

The overhead wiring on Queen Street east of Botsford, and on Lewis Street between Main & Queen has been removed, and the old ugly wooden power poles have been (mostly) removed. This should be complete within the week. The change in the appearances of this area is pretty dramatic.

The city should continue to avail themselves of any potential opportunity to continue in the removal of overhead wiring elsewhere in the downtown core.

Also, They started tearing down the houses on Lewis st. I believe the yellow house on Steadman (that they had to curve the rd around) is being torn down as well.

I think all thats going to left on lewis is the low income housing and the seniors home on the opposite side.

I am wondering if the City should have taken advantage of Crappy property values along this street and tried to buy it up. Maybe extend lewis/(assumption) up to mountain rd. maybe even eventually down king st and hop the highway and connect it to lewisville instead of botsford.

Big changes.

We now have a tenant for the second CRU on the main level of FiveFive Queen.

It has long been known that a Gahan House brew pub will be located to the left of the main lobby and entrance.

It has just been revealed in the T&T that a new 5,000 sq ft NB Liquor specialty wine store will occupy the CRU to the right of the main entrance and lobby. This will be the first specialty wine store in the province!

In addition to the retail space, the store will contain a "tasting room", which will also be used for special events.

This is very cool, it’s about time something like this was brought to Moncton, especially how popular wine is.
