the las vegas tower is not competing against the Sears tower, the spire, freedom tower, burj dubai, cn tower or any other tall building. It is competing against the wynn, bellagio, venetian, caesars and echelon though and its uniqueness and drawing power (if ever built) will be its height.
You sir, make a fantastic point and everyone here should take it to heart.

And in order to keep up with Macau, this tower needs to be built.

Of course, Vegas will have to make sure they have drinking water for the opening........

I posted this to the Vegas Project Rundown thread and no one responded
seems like this will be an interesting dilemma not just for Crown LV, but for all the projects that will be completed around 2010/2011

los angeles with a population of over 12 million in the metro area has no local drinking water supply as far as i am aware and they get by alrite

The dwindling water supply in the las vegas valley will only serve to slow down the movement of new residents into the valley. It will not affect the hotels imo as most of their water is recycled time and time again, its called "gray water". Las vegas also sits on a massive underground raging torrent of a river.

Actually, 25-30% of LA water is pumped from aquifers underground and from local sources.

Also, L.A. has built a series of large canals/aqueducts that carry water from the Colorado, high altitude lakes, etc. Water is definitely one thing Chicago will never run out of...

Ok, since someone shut down the Crown Las Vegas forum on SSC, let's get this one rolling again! So, did anyone hear what happened this week at the Planning Commission meeting?

Thanks!

They should move this proposal to Los Angelos.

Dubai, Vegas, and underwater are the only places this would "fit in"

How many years and how many design changes did it take before Chicago Spire finally started construction? A lot!

They have until next summer to close the deal on the land. They also should wait a little for the financial markets to rebound before committing to a construction loan. Also, PBL is going through corporate structure changes right now, trying to spin off their gaming division, Crown, into a separate company. Plus, Crown has their hands full with some other gigantic projects already started in other parts of the world. But they have stated that ultimately Crown Las Vegas will end up being their flagship property. So something spectacular will eventually be built here. We'll just have to wait and see what it is.

Actually, probaly only 2.5 years from initial proposal. It would have been less if Carley could have actually funded it.

Well, it's been less than one year since this one first appeared on the planning agenda and everything was approved except the height pending the FAA. The two partners who joined since then have enough cash to fund it out of pocket, if they wanted to.

I'm worried that if they shorten it too much it will get real fat or wide, because they still need the same number of rooms for their business model. In that case I would prefer a pair of slender thousand-foot towers with some skybridges. We have enough really wide buildings here already.

They need to build it and start turning Vegas into America's Dubai.

I doubt anything in America will ever match the pace or boom of Dubai.

Maybe they will get desperate and just put a projection of the building on the lot to make it look cool.

But seriously, I really doubt this will get built in Las Vegas. Maybe they will move the project to Dubai and build it there and propose a new Building for their site in Las Vegas. Its just to tall for Las Vegas.

Although Las Vegas is the fastest growing city in the U.S right now (I think) So maybe it will go ahead. Just not on the scale they were hopeing.
