Walked by just now (sorry again for my horrible camera phone w/ purple spots!). The Temple is moving right along. The parking lot is still half open, and too many construction trailers to count on the closed lot... huge undertaking really.

The tower needs to start construction now! In the meantime, the Temple is looking really great.

I am curious to see how the highly polished white granite cladding will look once they start putting it on the Temple.

Is that's what's happening? I was a little worried when I saw the oval windows sculpted out that they'd simply be painting the concrete white. That'll be awesome if it's clad in something better.

The white granite should be more brilliant and reflect light more than any white marble. Granite or not, the dome of the Ritz currently looks horrible and dirty (though not quite as bad as City Hall used to). Not very white...Needs a good powerwashing. Or whatever it is they do. I'm sure it's expensive to clean properly. Every 15 years or so would be good. They are due.

LOL, when I lived in DC the tag was always there. Now, occasionally someone tags it and then it's gone. But it's nice to see it lives on.

It's funny, I moved to Philly over ten years ago when they were cleaning City Hall, and I remember some lifelong residents telling me they had always thought that it was made of granite because it was so dark. It wasn't until they finally started cleaning it in the early 00's that a lot of people realize it was marble.

I was going to post same thing about the parking lot. Just went past there and noticed it was closed. could this be yet another project that beats W hotel into construction? Seems that way.

I think so - without a doubt. Financing here was never an issue -- Mormons...deeeep pockets.
