Torta with pork al pastor from Molcajete, Crossroads Market, Calgary. Every torta I'd ever had before this one was on thinner round bread- sort of like a big hamburger bun- but one wasn't. Delicious, couldn't come close to finishing it. Partner's chicken burrito in the rear.

^^no kidding, that is not only disgusting, but the equivalent of a beige stucco and glass block building.

A traditional Newfoundland lobster boil - nothing but lobster, cheap beer and white wine, mustard salad, and garlic bread.

You need to have a fire going. The smoke adds to the taste of the lobster.

And you must have appropriate clothing.

Once they're boiled, you dump them in the sink to cool off... portion should be three lobsters per person. That way you can save some to eat cold the next day.

But it is sacrilegious to eat lobster indoors - so make sure you haul the tables out on the nearest patch of grass.

Then it's time to dig in. Don't forge to eat all the delicious cream and paste...

And, if you're lucky, you might even get a female lobster full of bright, red ginger. It's delicious!

Chuck the shells in a bin when you're done.

And enjoy desert!

Thanks, Franks!

I posted these pics to FB as well and a friend in MB sent me a message asking, "What the **** is up with that fence?"

I thought I'd better explain here too: it's just a hill. Like virtually all homes in the city, my parents' place is built into a steep hillside. It is two floors high in the front, and one floor high in the back. This is in the backyard, so the fence cuts steeply away downhill toward the front.

Family went for Mother's Day to a local Mennonite restaurant that does the traditional Waterloo County buffet. After potato soup and assorted salads, I went for the mains and had local smoked pork sausage with sauerkraut, turkey breast with bread stuffing, and pork schnitzel (well the schnitzels were small!). Passed on about five other types of meat. Added a couple of spoonfuls of green beans and shredded turnip to my plate to assuage my gluttony guilt. Desert was a "taste" of Dutch Apple Pie and a deadly good coconut butter tart pie.

No alcohol because Mennonite restaurants are not licenced. (!)

No photos because I would be too ashamed to create a photographic record of the way we can gorge ourselves down here.
