I hadn't realized that Dunn's Famous had closed - to re-open October 9th after a remake into a vintage deli format:

No, it's been there for a while now. I can't remember when I first noticed it but it might have even been last year.

The Elephant & Castle in the Marine Building has closed for renovations. The location only opened in 2008 so I'm guessing they are trying to reformat it somehow.

Also Chez Cora is looking to open locations in Downtown Vancouver, Burnaby and North Vancouver. They already have restaurants in Richmond, Coquitlam and Langley in Metro Vancouver.

http://www.chezcora.com/en/restaurants

Cora has great breakfast selection and it would be nice to have one in Downtown.

The one in Port Coquitlam is targeting November 15th. They're hiring staff now.

I went to Dinesty (sic) in Richmond when I was back, and I've got to say that I was disappointed. The xiaolongbao was decent enough, but it was other dishes that fell flat. The taste just wasn't there; their dan dan mein (sesame noodle) was watery, too sweet, and lacked that Sichuan flavour, the fried rice was pretty bland and the vegetables all tasted the same. Huge portions though.

I really think Din Tai Fung needs to open a restaurant in Vancouver. They'd absolutely kill it.

Dinesty has gone massively downhill in the past 3 years or so. The first time I went there, perhaps 5-6 years ago, it was on par with the DTF that I visited in Taipei. The last time that I went there, the tea smoked duck was basically just deep-fried broiler chicken.

Needless to say, I refuse to go there anymore.

i don't get the fuss about cora, the few times i have been the food was kinda gross and the options sucked, when i think breakfast i think bacon, eggs, toast, hashbrowns not fruity crepes or fruit salad lol gross

and the lunch options suck, no french fries wtf

What? I disagree, having worked there for a time. Crepes and waffles will always be superior to toast and hashbrowns.

Regarding the no fries, Cora's thing is to be relatively healthy (not in portion sizes of course). So that means no fries for lunch, and a legitimate serving of fruit with breakfast

De Dutch is primarily a Metro Vancouver thing. Cora is a national chain.

I see Central Bistro on Denman and Comox closed, too bad the food was good. Fish House in Stanley Park also gone as of September 30.
