Nice!

I just might see you at Whitewater...

What's Big White like? There's a chance I might be heading out there for a few days this winter.

Big white looks so cool late in the season with all the snow ghosts, this picture of me is from Christmas Day 06.

Those are pretty cool. Trees covered with frost?

On a related note, the huge Whistler gondola opens in 2 weeks. I didn't realize it was going to open this year; I'm DEFINITELY making the trek out there if just for that!

There's the "How Much Snow?" thread in the Canada section. If/when winter kicks in, that's where you'll find such pics.

Just snow, it's the wind that does it I think.

I like Big White because the terrain is a bit more varied and there aren't really any big runouts or cat tracks like Silver Star has to get to all the good runs. Having said that I do like Silver Star better because it doesn't get as socked in as Big White, and there's more technical terrain. For those who know SIlver Star but haven't been there in a while, they added a chairlift to the Attridge side of the mountain so all those awesome attridge runs that you had to hike to before are now easily accessible.

Whitewater is still my favorite. You can always find powder and the hill reminds me of Silver Star back in the 80's

Thanks for the info.

I'm actually a little disappointed by the Attridge chairlift. Having to hike there means that there's still snow there... I'm not the hugest fan of the groomers.

All my favourite hills are the ones with old, slow chairlifts and low skier traffic. Red, Whitewater, Castle...

Ok now I'm fired up!

As a project manager working in commerical construction I am able to take the time off around christmas and new years as typically jobsites slow right down during that time.

Doesn't mean I won't still get a million phone calls a day, But that just proves that I can still do my job while riding up a chairlift or sitting in the lodge drinkin' beer!

So you take a lift to the top of the hill to get on another lift to go to the top of the other hill? seems kinda weird to me.

Nah man, basically if you were skiiing Whistler and you decided that you wanted to ski Blackcomb in the afternoon you would have to get into your vehicle to get to the main Whistler village it can take upwards of 20 mins. The Peak 2 Peak cuts it down to 11 minutes! Should make the mountains much more Skiiable.

I was under the impression that it's reasonably easy to ski between the bottoms of Whistler and Blackcomb. I just think the gondola is a cool idea for the view.

Quick mini-poll:

If you had to choose between Silver Star and Big White for a day (skiing), in late December, which would it be (and why)?

Having never been to the area in winter I have zero idea, but it's looking likely that I'll be a few days in Kelowna over the holidays and I wanna add onto my Whistler experience. You guys have been mentioning these resorts lately, so...

Only if you consider skiing through knee deep slush with tens of thousands of other people to be easy.
