Krispy Kreme opening Jan. 27

KAHULUI, Maui — Hawai'i's first Krispy Kreme Doughnuts store will open Jan. 27.

The announcement was made at an unveiling of a "countdown-to-opening" sign at the site of its Kahului store under construction on Kele Street near the corner of Dairy Road and Haleakala Highway. The event featured 100 dozen doughnuts flown in from Oregon.

Founded in 1937 in North Carolina, Krispy Kreme now operates 320 stores. Seattle-based KremeWorks USA owns the Pacific Northwest-Hawai'i-Alaska franchise.

Kripsey Kreme is taking the northwest by storm.

Seattle and the rest of WA was hit with the KK fever just a couple years ago and then in 2001, the local news here said Anchorage is due for a KK in 2004.. i've remembered it in my head ever since

I've had Krispy Kremes and I just don't see what's so special about them.

I mean, they're good, but IMO there's nothing so great about them to be worth all the hype they get.

But obviously lots of people disagree with me. *shrugs*

Maybe Krispy Kritters are trying to stay in competition with Starbucks in Alaska or something!
