Is it just me or does the model look a bit chunkier/less slender than the original renderings? Either way it looks gorgeous.

I think its just because its in the same photo as 111w57th's model which will make anything look fat. When you look at it with that in mind it mentally thins out I think.

The model reminds me a bit of Sears Tower, with it's spiraling setbacks.

Can't wait until this tower rises into this shot. Brooklyn was long overdue for a skyscraper like this.

I'd say we're beyond prep. I just walked by.... that other small building for demo is gone.

***And it appears the caisson drill rig is drilling the foundation ****

Can someone swing by to confirm and post a photo. The rig is very obvious... gigantic and yellow.

A little more than a year ago they started work on this tower. Still a lot more to be done before we get steel rising, but I don't know how much they will do without financing. A lot of the residential towers make significant progress without it, but we'll see.

Nice that there is at least some visible progress. This is one of the most important projects in NYC currently imo. Certainly the most important for outer boroughs.

I wish there was more of a "1 Vanderbilt" like urgency to this project.

It's going through the process. Preliminary work first on adjacent structures. Similar to 111 W 57th which took a while to get off the ground.

Project overview

Tallest building in Brooklyn at 1,066 feet (325 meters)
73-story tower will span 556,164 square feet.
Residential portion, 463,470 square
Commercial portion, 93,000 square feet.
515 Residences
Quote:
Upon completion, the building will offer luxurious condominiums for sale, located in the top part of the building. To put it into perspective, the lowest floor apartment for sale in the building, will be higher than any penthouse available in Brooklyn. The rest of the residential apartments will be rentals, 30% of which will be allocated as affordable units.

The new tower will be a major first for Brooklyn, taller than anything currently standing in Brooklyn by almost 500 feet. Towering over the outer boroughs, 9 DeKalb will offer a one-of-a-kind luxury high-rise experience, with unobstructed views in every direction, condo-level finishes, and the most luxurious amenity package found outside of Manhattan.

It will permanently alter the skyline of the borough and change the feel of the historically low-rise Downtown Brooklyn, bringing the borough one step closer to Manhattan-like density and height. The building will be visible from all over Brooklyn, and its distinctive facade will reinforce its prominent position on the skyline.

Ryan Serhant (star of Million Dollar Listing) is going to be marketing the condo units in this tower.

But Stern insists nobody’s been hired yet to market his 1,066-foot tower.

“We have not engaged any broker to market 9 Dekalb,” he said in a statement. He declined to comment further.
