That would be one incredible cluster of towers! Obviously there is still a lot of work to be done however.

What are you talking about? A 4/5 year old can remember such things. I'm sure most do. I remember a much more minor tragedy from when I was 5.

^ And for those who can't remember, there's a lovely museum and memorial on site.

Moving on doesn't necessarily equate forgetting.

Looks like they're putting up a new fence or something from this new permit filing...

Your massive assumptions make this entire post irrelevant.

I just had to clean pages of nonsense to get this thread back on track, so drop it. If you two have issues you can use the PM function to carry on.

Michael Shvo's Enormous FiDi Tower Is Beginning To Rise

Curbed New York
February 23, 2015
Jeremiah Budin

A tipster informs us that work started this weekend at 125 Greenwich Street, the future site of the 1,356-square-foot tower that Michael Shvo (along with Bizzi Partners) is developing, which, going by the renderings, looks like it's going to be a tall, slim, completely unembellished glass rectangle. The 77-story Rafael Vinoly-designed building will be Downtown's tallest residential tower, and will stand only 23 feet shorter than the city's record-holder, 432 Park Avenue. There is no targeted completion yet as of yet for the ambitious project, which will contain a total of 128 apartments, including 10 5,300-square-foot full-floor penthouses and a 10,600-square-foot duplex penthouse.

This was definitely covert in a way. If there's something about Michael Shvo, its that we will expect really good news all of a sudden. Anyways, with this news:

Seeing how prominent 432 is, this is amazing in both its aesthetics and impact on the skyline. World class essentially. Now we just need WTC2 to rise.

What the article failed to mention is the building is now 841' feet not 1356'.

I don't have time to post a link now but check the thread at Skyscrapercity.

Delete. The previous info was due to an error at SSC. So therefore, its time to get the champagne out because this will be a supertall.

Is this guy really going to build a slimmer glass version of 432 Park? Cause that would suck...

edit:

Didn't see the posts after the one with renderings. Sucks that they cut the height. The design doesn't look like much either...

a 1350 foot box would have been okay because of the height as would have been an 840' wonderfully designed building.

But in an 840' box in NY?

Nothing special at all.

I believe we have discussed this before. It's an old permit which is being used for new jobs. So it doesn't necessarily mean that the tower has been shortened. Let's rather wait for an official statement and / or a new permit.

Look here ... it's no coincidence: old design was 841' roof, and 882' with the extension.

So I guess we are safe for now ...

Fisher Brothers has posted some renderings of the Rafael Vinoly-designed 22 Thames, and the rental tower is certainly living up to its promise of being tall, thin, glassy, and nondescript, not entirely unlike Vinoly's other big project, 432 Park. It also, according to NY YIMBY, could become the tallest residential building in Lower Manhattan if it exceeds 937 feet, passing the Four Seasons Hotel & Residences at 30 Park Place. A disapproved DOB permit has the height at 841 feet with 70 stories and 439 units (20 percent of which will be affordable). Amenities will include a fitness room, club room, library, conference room, yoga room, deck, squash court, screening room, and pool. The building is expected to be completed in spring of 2017.

I hope you're right hunser, thanks for bringing that up, although I wouldn't be surprised if they shortened it it's good to know that may not be the case.

The date on the permit is 06/05/2012 ... this isn't something new.

It is the old design. I don't really see how the confusion comes in. We've been talking about this tower even before Shvo bought the site and changed plans for a taller tower.

The completion date for the tower has also stayed the same, "2017", which is on the sign. I'm guessing that render is misleading or a much earlier one.
