I would imagine so, because demographics.

And even if it's not, that's not a problem for you, I, or the city to worry about. The only one who needs to be worried about whether a particular type of land use is "needed" is the who is using the land.

No, but retirement residences provide (and charge for) services (like emergency call buttons to call a 24 hour nurse on call, organized social activities and meal services) that younger people wouldn't want to pay for (a retirement residence can easily be double the cost of a standard apartment).

Feb 2019 plans posted. Closer to Carling, dropoff area on Cambridge converted to on-street loading zone.

Construction has started on this project. Drove past today and they were excavating the site and drilling piles. A large billboard with a render image of the new tower was erected on the corner of Carling and Cambridge. Couldn’t get a picture since I was driving though.

I just drove by the site. This building will be quite prominent due to it's elevation up the large slope, I would say the top floor would match up to around the 26th floor of Icon from most angles. I'll post a picture of the render they have on the sign, it doesn't look like the worst Roderick Lazy building at least.

Jokes aside, the buildings looks good. Of course we'll have to wait to see what the materials really look like.

Truthfully I like it. But I’m pretty much a part of its target demographic. I do wonder about road noise from Carling/Bronson/Queensway.

I’m around the corner from this. Road noise is a bit of an issue (particularly given the inexplicable decision by the province to leave good chunks of central Ottawa without noise barriers), but I’d note that a) this building is largely sheltered from Bronson by the tower on the corner and it’s a decent distance from the Queensway b) that stretch of Carling really isn’t that busy and c) if you’ve lived near a busy street or transit line, you know that those become background noise that you don’t even hear pretty quickly.

that rendering with what appears to be a decent skyline standing in for Ottawa kills me.

It is a good location with its proximity to the Glebe and Dows Lake but the only problem is having to run for your life across that intersection any time you want to go to those places.

I think it's funny that they call it '55+ Living in The Glebe' on the sign. That corner is definitely not the Glebe, it should say '55+ living next to The Glebe'

I see that the area is marked as "The Glebe Annex" on Google maps. I don't know where that name came from - but it probably looks better on real estate listings than whatever it was called before.

That's exactly where it came from - the minds of enterprising real estate agents. There's now a Glebe Annex Community Association and that name seems to be what is commonly used. It is a very under-appreciated neighbourhood, but it will be firmly in the spotlight when the redevelopment of the NRCan properties hits full stride. The location is truly outstanding.

Glebe-Oriented Development?

It's amazing how close it obviously is in that aerial photo, but on the ground, Bronson feels very wide.
