Makes sense, considering there's a substation occupying the northern portion of the lot.

You know what other place on West Market could've had something much bigger? The building at 19th and Market that I think is the Philadelphia Stock Exchange. While it is a nice little building, it looks like the base of a much taller building, like something 700 feet+

NASDAQ moved the PHLX to the FMC building a while back.

Meanwhile Brandywine has owned 1900 Market for the past 6 years and is just finishing up extensive renovations.

The former stock exchange building is notable as one of the late Willard Rouse's developments (his first in CC) and for its large atrium (the building was originally named the Atrium).
Mr. Rouse's emergence as Philadelphia's high-profile developer really began with Great Valley. But his first attention-getting downtown project was the Atrium, an eight-story office building that houses the Philadelphia Stock Exchange - and an office of Rouse & Associates. When the building opened in 1981, Center City had never seen anything like its center court, with greenery, waterfalls and skylight. ''People said we couldn't build an eight-story building with downtown land prices, and that you couldn't put a hole in it,'' said Mr. Rouse. ''I love Philadelphia,'' he said with a hint of a smile, ''because it's so easy to shock.''

I've always been fascinated by that building. Yes, from the street, it looks like any other skyscraper that lines Market and JFK but when you look up, it's odd that it's only - what 5 floors?

Only 8 stories (see my post right before yours), but an important piece of Willard Rouse's Philadelphia legacy.

This is the concourse under the building or not?

This is just the passageway from the concourse under the CTC to the concourse underneath the CC. The concourse under the CTC isn't perfect either but once it has some restaurants and shops it should be much more lively.

When are they going to light the lantern again? This looks so dull at night.

Dunno. There's no rhythm or reason to when it is lit. I see it more unlit than lit TBH.

Any updates on the large, mystical sphere in the lobby?
