No. The governments of NB and Canada have slowly be transitioning place names over to the full-form Saint. Things like the St. John River, which runs from Saint John to Northern Maine, was renamed to Saint John River, as an example.

Because it differentiates Saint John, NB from St. John's, NL. I find this is less commonly done by francophones, partly due to the translation factor (St-John & St-Johns) and partly due to the plethora of St-place names in QC. When Saint John and St. John's both joined the QMJHL at the same time one was abbreviated SNB and the other SNL, as an example of this.
