March 03, 2014

The Central African State of Ruanda, commonly known as the “land of a thousand hills”, is rarely the focus of West European interests. On a private initiative, on the road in Nyanza connecting the country’s most important towns Kigali und Butare, a new IT Center has been built. While the initial order was to design a new roof over a forecourt, after first discussions the idea was born to build a training center with lighthouse character, with a future-oriented curriculum and training options.

Campus Repsol is striking for sure. I never thought I would call anything Brutalist Revival but this is getting pretty close.

I think there's too much focus on glass and steel to call it brutalist revival

This is a true neo-brutalist design:

elizabeth house development by david chipperfield gets the green light

david chipperfield architects‘ proposed elizabeth house development at london’s waterloo station is to go ahead after a legal challenge against the project was thrown out by the high court. critics of the scheme suggested that the building’s scale would have a potentially detrimental impact on westminster’s world heritage site, however the £600 million venture now looks set to receive its long awaited planning permission.

Museum of the History of the Polish Jews
Lahdelma & Mahlamäki
March 24, 2014

The origins of the Museum of the History of the Polish Jews go back to the mid- 1990s, when the founding director of Tel Aviv’s Diaspora Museum and the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC, Yeshayahu Weinberg, convened an international working group to plan a new museum dedicated to the history of the Polish Jews. Some 150 researchers from different countries in Europe, Israel and North America participated in gathering the material on the history and lives of the Jewish people. By the year 2003, the fundamental idea and preliminary exhibition plan for the museum had been completed.

Ingenhoven International Architects | Oeconomicum University Düsseldorf
Posted by admin on March 26, 2014 in Architecture

The site for the new Oeconomicum on the campus of the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf is located between the existing library and medical school and the university’s lake. The new building takes its form from the curve of the lake shore and with the surrounding buildings it defines a new square. The building can easily be extended. The 3-storey structure is raised on stilts, connecting it to the upper level of the university mall.

Elegant 3D waves in steel “Unbuildable facade” finished
David K. • March 29, 2014

With its oval form and a metal façade that almost seems to be flowing, the main building of the InterContinental Davos Hotel has become an unmistakable new landmark. The undulating envelope wraps itself tightly around the structure, leading to an interplay between open and closed surfaces which appears different from every angle.
