Qatar is Building a Whole New City From Scratch for the 2022 World Cup

https://www.yahoo.com/travel/lusail-...100504067.html

...And it will be a metropolis of the future: Plans include a commercial district, a lagoon, two marinas, a swanky shopping mall, luxury hotels, a hospital, a zoo, golf courses, a snow park, a Six Flags amusement park and more. For getting around town there will be a light rail, underground pedestrian tunnels and water taxis. Everything from transportation to communication will be controlled by command center computers. And yes, people will actually live in Lusail – there will be housing for about 250,000 people.

Too ambitious. If it were a project in 1910 then I could definitely see it being complete before said event.

FIFA: Congrats Qatar, you get the World Cup!

Qatar: Oh shit, we better build a city.

I wonder how many slaves it will take to build this?

They bought these games.

The one really good thing is that FIFA has not ruled out changing the location of games if the accusations prove true. That would be a wonderful slap in the face.

Honestly, playing football in 50 degree heat? To say nothing of the slave labour that are working for peanuts, living in shacks, and putting life and limb in danger to build these new facilities.

Also, so much for "inclusion" and other values FIFA continues to espouse. Qatar is one of the most racist, sexist, homophobic and undemocratic nations in the world.

You left out the pesky financial connection to international terrorist groups, currently slaughtering tens of thousands of innocents.

The heat alone would make it a total no-go in my opinion. Then again I can't fathom watching a baseball game if it's 70F and the sun is on me.

Can't imagine ever wanting to set foot there.

Quite possibly the most ridiculous place to consider holding the World Cup in. And yet, they are going to host the World Cup. The byzantine mystery of FIFA, and all their bullshit...
