N Scale city models and skyscrapers (future train layout)

I started posting these threads on the Canadian thread not realizing this was on here. I haven't made a post on there for months. I thought this was the proper place to post my photos.

I've been working for years on my City train layout in N scale (1:150 or 1:160) scale. Most of my models are styrene. Some are made from kits, or many kits bashed together to make one building and some are scratch built.

I'll post some of my photos....

I've got a lot more buildings than this... just haven't photographed them all... I've also got a ton of buildings to build still...

Another one I'm building right now is a new flat iron building...

As you can see I hand paint and detail all these buildings even the ones that are in kits like this one...

I'll keep you posted...

Great stuff. I like the detail on your street level too. Those CMR models are beauties. I should get off my a$$ and spend a few bucks to get some (N scale too). Look forward to seeing your progress on your layout. Thanks.

Hey guys...

Sorry I've neglected my thread for so long and thanks everyone for kind compliments.

I finished my latest model even though it took me a couple of months of work. well more a little this day and a little that day...so busy with work.

Anyways here's my photos of the final building and some mock up photos of how it looks with some of my other older style buildings.

Anyways here's my latest upgrade to my building collection.

It's called The Gas and Electric Building (N Scale)

I hand painted this little figure for my building...

I really liked how this turned out.

I love the Rod Stewart spread on his layout. So amazing. Especially cause it's H.O. scale ( 1:87 ) I couldn't imagine how much room it would take to make his layout. So impressive.

Here's another model I made about a month ago..or not made but upgraded from an old model I had back in the day.

I originally built this first building using three of these kits. I built it about 10 years ago..

This was what I built back over ten years ago..

I was happy at the time but as my modeling skills improved I began to dislike it more and more. So I found an extra built model I bought off ebay.

I ripped it apart and cut out the blank wall section in the top of the original building...

I then filled in the empty section with a row of windows..

I then cut the new kit up and built a stepped up upper section to the older building and added a few people on the balconies..

I then made some fake lights and a billboard to cover the lower section of the blank wall...

I then had to build the back sections of the walls or alley walls..

I then glued full wall sections to the alley walls for a clean look...

I then started to build some upper floor penthouse balconies...

Then painted them and added some details..

I then hand made some bay windows and wall for the balcony...

I then painted them and added the rest of the balconies..

These models are very small, you can't even get your finger tip between the windows and the railing! I then painted the balconies in the front...

added some see through blocks...

added some street details...

And in my opinion created a much nicer building than I had before!

I've got so many buildings to build still it's crazy! I'm in the middle of building a new one right now. Cheers all and thanks so much for the kind comments! I'll try and keep up on this post!

Great Scaper, these models are excellent.

Just wondering, do you know AutoCAD or Adobe Illustrator? You can draw buildings in these programs and have them laser cut in plastic. I'm pretty sure there are businesses out there that do it and charge by the minute. Their rates would be highly competitive with the kits you are ordering, plus you get to do a bunch of custom stuff since you design it.

You've inspired me to put together something.

I love that railroad... really really amazing. I've been inspired by a few to be honest. I'll have to post some links on here in the next day or so when I get a bit more time. I find building my models is a fun way to get away from the stress of business and life etc. If you start building stuff you should post it here. I'd be interested to see what you've got planned.

I have never heard of this but it sounds incredibly interesting. What types of places would laser cut your programmed drawings for you? I've been wanting to find a place to make molds or come up with some cool buildings etc.

Anymore info would be fantastic!
