I think alot of smartphones have crappy battery life at first. My *cough* amazing *cough* iPhone 5 that I got Christmas-time had really bad battery life when I first got it. Not quite as bad as you described though. I could get through 3/4 of a day with 3g off and brightness low. Now I can get through a day and sometimes 2 with no problem. Mind you, I'm not really a heavy user, but the moral of the story is that battery gets better over time.

Same thing with my iPad, which I use alot more than my phone when home. When I first got it, the battery would only last a few hours, not normally a day. Now I can go days between charging and still be at 60%. I'm pretty sure my iPad has some sort of super battery!

I can only recommend two things.. Lower the brightness. that saves alot of battery. and if all else fails, switch to iOS

Ferry woes aren't the words.

Do we have any vessel that hasn't had to be pulled out of service recently? Insane.

Unless I'm playing games, my Galaxy S2X will last a long time. I just make sure I close all the apps I'm not using (I usually leave messages and facebook messenger open and close everything else when I'm not using them). When I was in phoenix I had it on airplane mode and it would last several days without charging (again, unless I was playing games).

It usually says most of the battery usage is just from having the display on. I also never have wifi or gps on and only use bluetooth if I'm transferring something to/from my pc.

Oh yeah, Copes - I plugged my phone back in at 2:30 (so, six hours use) and it was still at 86% battery life.

Hey all,

I've been following the whole Muskrat Falls Saga and the latest twist is a bit of a head scratcher. Just wondering what the general concensus is with this Cabana guy, is he a loon or what's the deal?

Honestly, he is an attention-whore who receives way too much coverage than he deserves. I don't know why the media cares to cover him.

Copes you must be right, that's the only thing that fits.

He's wasting alot of public money with nonsense, why is he given all this attention? As far as I can tell, he isn't in anyway influential in any sphere of life. Just weird.

Can you imagine if Cabana and Ryan Cleary somehow had a child together? It'd probably be born a clown.

Oh god no Someone who jumps around from party-to-party and then stages a one man court battle over something ridiculous is just that. If he was in the PC party I'm sure he'd love Muskrat Falls.

And well, Cleary....it's hard to take a man seriously when he bad-mouthed the party he represents so many times. It's sad that he managed to ride the orange wave in to office because S. Coady will forever be a better representative than him.

Well, Cabana, of course. Kidding.

This is a question that Jeddy can probably contribute the most to.

In my opinion, start with the Scope: http://www.thescope.ca

Then Signal (NOT mine): http://www.signalblog.ca/

I should be more clear, although both of these help a ton... I mostly need people who are heavy twitter social butterflies. :-)

Also, never post until coffee is finished.

Mussels farmed in Newfoundland waters will soon be receiving the organic label.

...

She said they are the first mussels in North America to receive the label.

...

Halfyard said the newly-labelled organic Newfoundland mussels will be launched at the upcoming Boston Seafood show in March.

I think most of us would agree that Density is the key ingredient to a well functioning, efficient, affordable city... But is there a sweet spot? What should be the goal of persons per km for St. John's?

Some data to go by:

St.John's urban area > 182.62km^2 > 891.1 persons/squared km

Halifax urban area > 262.65km^2 > 1,077.2 persons/squared km

Copenhagen city proper > 74.7 km^2 > 7,500/squared km

Stockholm city proper > 188 km^2 > 4,600/squared km

Amsterdam city proper > 219 km^2 > 3,506/squared km

Oslo city proper > 454.03 km^2 > 1,400/squared km

Toronto city proper > 630 km^2 > 4,149/squared km

Montreal city proper > 431.5 km^2 > 4,517.6/squared km

Vancouver city proper > 114.97 km^2 > 5,249/squared km

I think anywhere between Halifax and Oslo would be the ideal for us.

Do we know what the population density of our rowhouse districts are? Because that would be my absolute minimum tolerance level.

I think 1000 people per square km is a reasonable goal for the urban center (excluding suburbs like paradise)

Yeah, there's a reason I'm not moving to Toronto, even though I really like to visit.

I think there's a point where the quality of life plateaus, I'm just not sure where that is.

I feel if St. john's could achieve a density that would allow it to afford high level transit, keep taxes stable and improve the services in a few key areas it could be the most liveable city in the country and I'm not joking. There is a real, special opportunity that exists in St.john's right now that I'm not seeing in other places.

Oslo comes in at around 1400 persons/square km which might be my vote for a goal for urban St. John's.

I'll try to find some numbers for the row house district.
