A Little Taste of Tokyo and Thailand

Over Christmas, I traveled to Tokyo and Thailand. I was only in Tokyo for a day, but for some reason, managed to take more photos in the course of those few hours then I did in any of the other major cities I stayed at. I'm a slow photographer, so please forgive that there are relatively few photos in this set. Enjoy!

I woke up early in Tokyo to start taking pictures. This is about as empty as you will ever see the place.

Breakfast of champions.

Originally, I had very elaborate plans for lunch, but being the Jew I am, I forgot it was Christmas day. Christmas in Tokyo is like Valentines day: everyone goes out for a romantic meal. As such, I was unable to secure reservations at any of the sushi bars I so wanted to try. Eventually, I just walked into a random sushi bar and sat down.

The above fish is known as Squilla, and is incredibly hard, if not impossible, to find in the U.S. I've always wanted to try this. Tastes like a more tender crab.

Aaaaaannnnddddd.... Kokbang.

Who wants Catfish?

Can't do that in L.A.

Meet Myson.

I love Elephants.

The not-so-sunny beaches of Krabi.

Peace!

Krabi's one of my favourites...even on a (kinda) overcast day.

And I've never seen that angle of Tokyo before. Aside from City Hall, I wouldn't have recognised it.

Good stuff.

Asia is just so much more interesting than Europe, IMO. Obviously not as rich in history and culture (or rich in general), but definitely more fascinating.

Chiang Mai. The tiger place is a total tourist trap, but who cares. You get to pet a tiger!

Yes it is, the one and only! Did you stay overnight? We did, and it was incredible. Waking up to the trumpeting of elephants is surreal, to say the least. And no, I don't believe I made it to Phi Phi.

That was a wonderful variety of buildings, food, & cats. Looks great, and some of the new buildings are quite impressive. Thanks for sharing.

That's crazy! But crazy good. It was one of the few elephant parks that felt that they really cared about the elephants' well-being. Most of the others made their elephants do unnatural "tricks" (e.g. painting) and forced the elephants to wear those heavy chairs to carry people.

We did not stay overnight but I imagine it was an amazing experience. But rather then go back to Chiang Mai, we were taken to the small down of Chiang Dao.
