LEVENT DISTRICT:

Levent is a business district, situated on the European side in the municipality Besiktas, on the North side of the Golden Horn, North of the city center. It is one of two large skyscraper districts in Istanbul (the other one is Maslak, unfortunately I couldn't visit it), you can find Istanbul's tallest building in Levent, Sapphire Tower, as well as some of the first modern skyscrapers in Istanbul, and Kanyon, a shopping mall with a striking curvy design. And even more skyscrapers and other modern office buildings are under construction, the downside of that is that it is hard to get through the area because of all the construction vehicles, cranes, rough traffic and unfinished pavements.

Grand Bazaar:

Sapphire Tower, Istanbul's tallest building, is 235 m tall (261m to the spire) and has 54 floors. It was completed in 2010. Unfortunately I didn't have the opportunity to visit its observation deck.

BEYOGLU DISTRICT part 1:

This part is about the Galata Bridge that crosses the Golden Horn (Halic) and the part of the hilly Karaköy neighbourhood (formerly Galata) around the Galata Tower, that is situated on the north side of Golden Horn, bordering Istiklal Caddesi, and the Kabatas harbour, also on the north side, just to the East of Karaköy, with banks opposite the Asian side. Karaköy is a historic part of Istanbul's city center, mostly dominated with very old buildings.Karaköy is today known as a neighbourhood for painters and artists with many galleries and music stores.

GALATA BRIDGE:

KARAKÖY:

The Galata Tower is more then 750 years old! It was the tallest building in the city, then in a Genoese colony in Constantineopel, when completed in 1348. It is 67m tall and has an observation deck (click to see the views) on the top.

KABATAS:

Kabatas is situated between Besiktas and Karaköy. Some ferries starts there. This is a traffic jam in front of the harbour, with the Asian side in the back.

BEYOGLU DISTRICT part 2:

This page is about a part of the Beyoglu district, close to Istiklal Caddesi, where you can find the cozy, hilly French Street (Franzözi Caddesi) and Galip Dede Caddesi, a hilly street filled with music stores. Tünel is the world's second oldest metro system.

FRANSÖZI SOKAGI (FRENCH STREET):

Franzis Sokagi, the French Street is a very hilly, cozy steet in the Beyoglu district. It has many nice open air cafés, bars and art galleries along the short, but steep, pedestrian street.

GALIP DEDE CADDESI ("MUSIC STREET"):

Galip Dede Caddesi, the musicians street. On this nice, hilly street you can find music shop all along the street!

THE HAREM:
The harem occupies one of the larger sections of the sultan's apartments in Topkapi Palace, totally it encompassed more then 400 rooms. The Queen Mother ruled the harem. The concubines and the eunuchs were often captured at war, many in Africa.

We didn't visit the Archaeological Museums, but we passed by it on the way to Topkapi. Inside it featueres part of the gate of Ishtar from Babylon (just like the Pergamon Museum in Berlin).

Well, what do you think about Topkapi?
I'm making a pause now in this thread, cause I will go to the Baltic countries for some days. But more will be added.

LALELI, SARACHANE, AKSARAY:

Laleli is the neighbourhood around our hotel, to the west of the old town in Sultanahmet. Here you can find the busy avenue Ordu Caddesi with many fancy stores and de luxe hotels. It passes the Sarachane Park to the west, where you can find the historic Valens Acqueduct, built by the Romans. In Aksaray you find the busy metro stop, the first place where we arrived.

SARACHANE AND THE VALENS AQUEDUCT:

The Valens Aqueduct (Bozdogan Kemeri) is situated at the busy intersection of Sehzade Basi Caddesi and Atatürk Bulvari boulevard. A small park borders it to the south, Sarachane Park, that is located in the middle of the intersection. This neighbourhood is part of the Fatih district. It is a Roman aqueduct which was the major water-providing system of Constantinople, then the Eastern Roman capital. It was completed by Roman Emperor Valens in the late 4th century AD, hence the name.

The City Hall of Istanbul, built in grey modernist style in 1953, is situated in the intersection right next to Sarachane Park, part of the Fatih district.

ANADOLU KAVAGI:

This is a small fishing village and district on the Asian side of Istanbul, on the far northern end of the city where the Bosphorus sound ends in the Black Sea. It is the last station of the wonderufl Bosphorus boat tour. Anadolu Kavagi was the only place we visited on the Asian side (due to fog the ferries to the Asian side was cancelled the day before). We were allowed to stop for less then 2 hours, so we just walked around a bit and visited a fishing restaurant, right next to the Bosphorus.

Anadolu Kavagi on the Asian side, last stop on the Bosphorus tour. This small fishing village was the only thing where we got off, and the only place on the Asian side that we visited (stopping for 1.5 hour in a fishing restaurant).

Yoros Castle, the ruined Genoese Castle on the Asian side, is situated on the mountain right above Anadolu Kavagi.
