Smile NEW YORK | Hotel Attraction | 1,181 FT / 360 M | NEVER BUILT

Designed by Antoni Gaudi, who also designed Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.
Oddly, it would have been built on the same area the World Trade Center later occupied. If it had though, it probably would have had a profound effect on architecture in NYC. Imagine if a trend caught on, buildings like the Empire State and the Chrysler probably would never have been built. I doubt though that this was possible in 1908, specially when you think about the 400 foot high exhibition hall.

Sketches by Joan Matamala:

God, do I hate Gaudi. Every thing he ever did or thought of doing. Misshapen ugly blob buildings with disgusting semi-organic detailing.

Also, how vain is it to dedicate a whole floor to the construct of the building itself?

^It appears to be what we'd call a convention center today. No actual on-site accommodations, but attracts people to local hotels.

That's Gaudi for you. Creative as hell, but just gross and well...gaudy.

What!. I am glad that Gaudi never built this. It basically looks like cancer tumors on steroids on top of each other.

I would actually encourage terrorists to blow this thing up if this was in my skyline.

Oh, but there would be

In other episodes, the hotel appears to be located by Pace University

Besides, in our universe, the tower's proposed location was the later WTC site.

Laughing at myself now. 2 years later and I actually like this building very much. Seeing how my thoughts have changed over the years is funny.

I bet Gaudi's buildings would work better in a place like London, where the plots of land, are according to his designs. But NYC has rectangular plots of land, and you can change that.

This would be most likely in the outer boroughs or the western side of Manhattan.

^ Even the outer boroughs are well planned, but they don't have rectangular plots at a degree to which Manhattan does.
