Richmond night market is back

went down tonight - getting there was painful

my friend drives and wanted to drive so we left dinner around westminster hwy and no 3 rd

it took us over 30 mins to go down no 3 rd to capstan way and about another 30 minutes to get to the casino area to find parking than a long trek into the site - actually not too bad but long lol

anyway you have to pay an admission fee now, its $1, which is fine a lot of people seem surprised - some actually turned back after seeing they had to pay to get in

the vendors were typical i would say 75% iphone 4 covers

the food was insane - the one lane was just wall to wall people and at times you couldn't even move - the potot twirl line up must have been 60+ people long, the deep fried cheesecake was also about 50+ people

anyway the canada line station had along line up they were making vancouver bound people line up downstairs to keep the platform controlled, was surprised that they brough an out of service to get ease the lineup and get people moving

anyway I wonder how the Summer Night Market behind home depot is doing... they have been heavily advertising lately - seems like the one next to the casino won the night

Thanks for the report-I'd like to check it out but if crowds are that thick I'll pass.

Keep in mind this was opening weekend for the night market. I went to the market by Home Depot on Saturday. SpongeG, your description of the one by River Rock Casino sounds exactly the same as this one, except there is no charge for admission. But you do have to pay 5 dollars if you want to park your car there. It is almost shocking how many people pass through to see what I consider junk being sold, and wait 15-20 minutes for bubble tea. Save the time, go to the mall.

^or you can go to the night market in vancouver's Chinatown.

I haven't been to the Richmond marks for a long time due to parking hassles, even when parking was free. I always seem to catch the night market in Chinatown unexpectedly leaving a restaurant or walking thru the area. I can't readily compare the food but in the end, it's all night market food stand food.

Sounds like the only tolerable way to go to that one is by SkyTrain.

There was an article today saying that the other night market, by Knight Street, had record attendance in its first week. I bet that all of this media attention on the "duelling night markets" has raised awareness about both of them.

It was busy. There was a steady stream of cars going in, and a steady stream going out. The food area was packed. Sometimes tough to tell where a lineup started. If you want to eat anything, you're most likely going to stand... I can kinda see the appeal. Something different to do. But you pay 5 dollars for parking and jump through hoops to get one or two tasty things. Other than that, there's not much else to do.

I love the night markets, yes the merchandise is mostly crap, but the atmosphere is terrific.

Also, my friends and I go for the food. It is by far the best "food fair" we have in our region. Again, it is by no means "the best" food, but there is decent variety of good asian vendor food that I miss having on a daily basis when I lived in Asia.

It is better than western vendor food by a mile.
