Well, if had you ACTUALLY left their actual windows open overnight, then you would have got them back on that.

I actually did leave a window open last night and it was fucking cold this morning.

I wish it was the opposite: Dark and cool in the evening and sunny and warm in the morning. We'd be more encouraged to get out of bed that way.

Typical answer from a 20-something Winnipegger.

When I was 20ish we all praised the new Fort Garry Breweries and cursed the mainstream beer. Now that I am older I drink Labatt Blue and have realized that I prefer a simple consistent beer and there really isn't THAT much of a difference to get worked up about. I also think that Stir Stick stout is the most disgusting abomination brewed in this city.

That said. All of these beer posts should really go in the Western Expresso thread.

^ you're maturing in the wrong direction.

I got all my shit beer swilling out of the way in my teens and early twenties.

Stir-stick stout, or any half pints offering would taste awful to anyone who drinks the equivalent of wonderbread beer (blue, cdn., bud, etc. etc.).

^ neither of them drink/drank beer. And in any event that comparison isn't valid since the beer offerings for people in their generation was pretty limited.

Half Pints I find far too rich and sweet. If I drank those I'd gain weight like a feedlot steer.

Urquell and Petroni are my current favourite banquet beers.

^ I think that, provided the alcohol content is the same or close, most beer has the same amount of calories (per volume), regardless of the type.

Dont generalize that demographic of winnipeggers. I am in my 20s and buy dominantly Standard, Keystone, PBR on the cheaper end and if I am willing to spend more i buy steam whistle, Kronenberg 1664, creemore springs, and any of the big rock beers.

I also tend to buy a lot of local product when I'm back home for a visit, big fort garry dark fan.

That being said i have never willingly bought a canadian, blue, or lab light.

Most of my friends vary, some are like me, some like canadian, some don't even drink beer. We are not all the same though

He's right - there is also that hipster demographic of young Winnipeggers who love their Standard and Pabst Blue Ribbon, just because. And, they liked it BEFORE it was cool

So you admit that you willingly buy and consume Standard, Keystone, PBR etc... yet you turn up your nose at people who drink Canadian, Blue or Lab Light?

I would say that there is little difference between our tastes. Both PBR and Labatt Blue are mass produced lagers. The only difference is that PBR has a hipster following.

when did i say i stick my nose up at people who drink them? Don't put words in my mouth either, many of my friends drink canadian including my girlfriend, I merely said i personally don't purchase them if given the option. I never willingly buy them because i don't like their taste as much as the brands i mentioned (yes there is a difference) and they cost more. Why not buy the cheaper and better tasting (personal preference). And if I'm going to spend a bit money on beer I buy the more premium brands i mentioned which are all better then the previous mentioned lagers. As for the hipster thing yes i admit many hipsters drink PBR for some reason, i know some who hate beer but still drink it. I started drinking it when i got to college and realized you can buy kegs of PBR from the beer store for 180$.....of the early college days...

St. James Pale from Half-Pints is a very good, drinkable local product. I would suggest it to some of you who currently drink the wonderbreads as a possible local go to beer every now and again.

It doesn't hurt that all the money stays in Winnipeg too.

Fort Garry Dark is always a great choice, and is my go-to pint. It always astounds me that it isn't available at the Tavern downtown, and many other large local eateries...

Be adventurous. Try a local beer. They aren't expensive, and we will never have a thriving local beer scene until people stop supporting the breweries who not only brew seriously average stuff, but also abandoned Winnipeg...
