Yeah, pretty sure its still brown, ydoc. Making it black wouldn't be much of an improvement, I don't think.

Ok timeout guys. Are we talking about the roof of TOA? If we're talking about the roof...it's black. Before they changed it, it was that light rusty red color.

Ah, yeah ok the sides then do look dark brown. I don't know about changing to anything that wouldn't blend in w/ the rest of the tophouse...the tophouse just isn't long enough I don't think to really make any colors work right

Arrow An idea for the Alamodome!

You know what would look cool if done right? I think that if San Antonio placed blue and green argon or neon rings up and down the shafts of the supporting columns to the Alamodome, it would look cool! Think about it. I don't think that has ever been done before to any similar structure. I would suggest maybe 2 of blue and 2 of green side by side all the way up the top of the columns. San Antonio needs to be lit up at night. I am tired of looking at the same bright burnt orange light on the American Life Building. It's practically the only thing that's lights up the skyline. San Antonio is not only classic, but should be made to appear classy as well.

Marriott rivercenter is lit up at night but your right SA downtown isn't lit up as much as Dallas or even Austin.

sometimes the tower life building isn't even lit up, and what happened to the strobe lights on top of the AT&T building and the Drury? Even the SAMA has a neon light through the skywalk.
I think our only buildings with the blue neon are on 281; whats the building before the Pacific Plaza after bitters?

what would be nice is if San Antonio redeveloped an area into an uptown area kinda like around the Galleria in Houston and had a second downtown that's what they are wanting to do in north Austin http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/zoning/north_burnet.htm

Why would we need a second downtown in a metro of only 2 million?

Sprawl compared to an actual downtown? That's a second downtown?

i think we have to get away from calling anything that has been densely developed a "downtown". cities have one CBD or urban core and everything else is ancillary to that and should be distinguished with a distinct district name.

from the wikipedia:

Quote:
The term is thought to have been coined in New York City, where it was in use by the 1830s to refer to the original town at the southern tip of the island of Manhattan. As the town of New York grew into a city, the only direction it could grow on the island was toward the north, proceeding upriver from the original settlement (the "up" and "down" terminology in turn came from the customary map design in which up was north and down was south). Thus, anything north of the original town became known as "uptown", while the original town (which was also New York's only major center of business at the time) became known as "downtown" or "Lower Manhattan". During the late 19th century, the term was gradually adopted by cities across the United States and Canada to refer to the historical core of the city (which was most often the same as the commercial heart of the city).

i've always liked the understated "pulsing" of the marriott rivercenter. it could be pumped up a little bit though.

If the Domain is Austin's Second Downtown, I guess you'd have to call La Cantera and the Rim SA's Fourth Downtown (after the real one, the Med Center, and Stone Oak).

Yeah there's another name for it it's called uptown or midtown like the area around the Galleria in Houston is uptown. And the area in Austin around the Domain is not going to just be just an outdoor mall the city wants to redevelop it into another downtown with buildings up to 30 stories along the commuter rail line and up to 15 stories everywhere else. but Austin does have more highrise development going on in our downtown than San Antonio here's one development thy are doing here on the old Concordia University site www.eastave.net

That looks similar to the Town Center at La Cantera (Phase 3).

I guess if you look at it from far away and at good angle it sorta looks like a city (small...very small) downtown.
