Thanks!.....I was told the Gallery was initially constructed with the option to build on top of it. Does anyone know if they're using the Gallery foundation? Also, any info on the height and use? From the picture, the highrise looks about as tall as the Aramark building.

The crane is just to facilitate the construction of the AMC movie theater portion of the project, which will result in the structure being slightly taller than it is today. This has been discussed in the General Developments thread.

^Right. They are raising the roof (a floor or two) on the section closest to the (soon to be former) Aramark Tower.

Taken June 9:

It appears that most of the "windows" are going to be cover over with ads...disappointing:

They are putting a lot more signs up correct, like on the Gallery, etc?

^^I wonder when the tenants are in if they'll program the 4 signs differently - right now all 4 flash the same ad at the same time. Part of the Times Square effect is the varied lights and colors constantly changing and blinking independnetly.

Will be interesting to see the effect when the Gallery billboards are in place. Given the budget-conscious nature of the rest of the project, I'm holding out little hope that they won't suck in some way.

Valid point.
Give this square a chance, it’s brand new.

Great pics TCO!!! These new builds turned out great...real trans-formative. Fashion District is coming along. Hope exterior of the old gallery bldg will turn out better than what is being done too it now. It would certainly ruin the vibe if they don't get it right.

awesome pics, guys.

one thing that i noticed while walking by is that the subway entrance blocks the pedestrian walkway, which takes away from the welcoming feel - you wouldn’t even necessarily know it was back there or open to the public. hopefully once the fences and everything clear out it will have a different vibe, but it likely won’t be readily apparent from the opposite side of market.

That is a shame. I like in DC how they integrated Metro entrances into the buildings and not in the middle of the sidewalk. There was a good opportunity for that here.

Agreed.. it makes less than no sense to block off all the ground floor retail from Market. Especially being directly across from the Reading Terminal and the Convention Center???

Agreed with that. It would be nice if they rebuild that entrance with glass walls.

Skintreesnail: love the pics.
Seems like the subway entrance may be out on the curb, so that it's not blocking the pedestrian space between the buildings?
