While driving to work this morning, at SZR towards Emirates Towers, I had in my sight both Burj Dubai and the 280 m Millenium Tower. I was almost 3 kms away from both of them, and BD seamed taller then the Millenium Tower.

Well, the closest the main road gets to it is about 200m away. There is a sliproad that comes off and gets within 30m or so, but as so you get onto it there's a security checkpoint.
You can see most of the top half of the tower from there but the view is now impeeded by new buildings.

I parked about 2kms away and walked down burj boulevard.

I arrived at the sliproad at about 1pm and the place seemed almost deserted with no real visable activity going on.

I was so tempted to wander down the sliproad to see how close I could get, but I'm a big chicken!

Everywhere else has 5ft fencing all around the site that blocks most of the developement from the view of passing cars.

Driving past again at around 7.30pm was a different thing all together. There were a queue of around 7-8 concrete trucks all lined up waiting patiently with cranes galore swinging here and there with bodies all over the place. I think must be the start of a new shift or something

So, in answer to your question....about 200m.....but if your brave and run up rambo style at around 1pm you could probably touch the thing!

Next time I'll grow a beard and take blue overalls and a yellow hard hat!

why is it that almost every picture i have seen of Burj Dubai shows it as if the building itself is actually leaning inwards or not exactly level? someone care to clear up that mystery?

Go for it! I was wondering if you had that stuff if you could "blend in" with all the activity. We'll all be waiting for your interior shots.

btw, if/when you got some BD pix, you can edit those double posts above
I've been doing that myself when I find dated photos. That's the best part of this thread since it doesn't grow very fast.

Not a mystery. The photog is just a little tipsy. Either that, or they are tilting the camera a bit, different lens types, etc.

This one is also curvy. It's ground zero Oct. 1, but a good example of lens type (plus, makes a nice desktop background):

I am doing an article for a german magazin about the future architecture of dubai. Where can I get further High resolution renderings about projects like burj dubai, dubailand or waterfront ? the developers haven´t been much of a big help so far.
Who can help ? Thank you

The developers are useless usually for this sort of stuff. Instead the best place is either this site or skyscrapercity.com.

This thread might be useful:

For Burj Dubai high rez renders, pm STR. I'm sure he wouldn't mind a donation.
As for Marina and Waterfront renders, try this thread also:

Does anyone know why when the concrete is mixed to an exacting standard, why in the supporting columns show so many differences in colour?

Some are light grey....almost white, some look a mid brown and a few look almost black!

All of these central columns bare a massive weight above, how accurate is the mixture?

What would cause these different colours?

New Desktop Wallpapers anyone?

Official height of both emirates towers is over 300m and so is the burj al arab. Also since the rose rotana should now be over 300m aswell burj dubai is 5th. Has to go past 355m to get to 1st place

(Top of thread)

Slugbelch, when you have the time, we'd all love to see the construction picture updates for the end of September and October at the top of this thread, as it's the first place I go when I'm short of time and need to catch up.

The WTB/Highrise thread is good but it's full of opinionated arses, who ask silly questions and impose skewed political beliefs here and there. Even I got drawn into stupidom by asking about different coloured concrete!

Great piece on the trump tower too, only the Burj Tower was said to be at 283m tall on the 14th Oct. How did you arrive at this height?
