This is enlightening. Thanks. I wonder also if there could be an element of parental responsibility somehow included in a revised or additional legal text?
It seems this might be a bit appropiate

One less venue for live acts - Railway Club is closing for good due to high rent and low sales. Kind of a unique place with a different layout. I'm surprised nobody bought the business and changed it to a nightclub format. There are 2 separate areas where you could potentially have 2 musical genres to offer customers.

That's disappointing. I guess the only live music people in Vancouver are interested in now a days are cover bands that play Sweet Caroline.

I hope they don't gut the place. Some of the woodwork (like the bars) in there is original classic Vancouver and pretty much a one of a kind today. It would make for a great tasting room.

Looked at picking it up a few months back, the price was not bad considering what liquor seat licenses are trading at. The problem is the place needs some serious money dumped into it, and the lease terms weren't very favourable to encourage anyone to make a sizeable long term investment, probably why the place doesn't look to have any money put back into it for years. A shame that the building wasn't available for purchase at a decent price which might've enticed someone to make a proper go at it.
Noticed 560 and Aubar don't seem to be open most weekends anymore.

Do you mean that Vancouver has a moderately enjoyable night-life and activity scene, whereas Seattle rather 'rocks?' That Seattle has more variety for going out, and a better music scene (by a long shot) than Vancouver? I think many people up here would agree with you.

Nobody in their right mind would agree to that kind of a lease deal. Almost impossible to cover costs, let alone make any money on the venture. Chalk yet another venue lost to ridiculous prices for commercial space in Vancouver.

Vancouver is beautiful, but each time I go out there, it's meh. I was at a show last night at Fortune. The crowd felt flat, people shove and push, oblivious to others and yes, this feels like general judgement, but it's happened enough times to me up there.

Vancouver's downtown nightlife has taken a dive since all the condos moved in. It's a shame, but thing have moved further east, and aren't as accessible, especially for tourists. Lots of red tape makes it hard for new places as well.

The old Electric Owl space is being reborn as a pub. Would like to see somebody try a night club format in that area again though. A Luv-A-Fair type place would seem the perfect fit for that area. The Electric Owl lacked an identity, though it did have a pretty good run for a nightclub.

something to do before christmas

World’s largest Christmas light maze opening in Vancouver next week

Quote:
The largest Christmas light maze in the world will make its debut in Vancouver next week.

“Enchant” opens Friday, Nov. 25 after over a year of planning. The 55,000-square-foot maze, located between the Cambie Bridge and Olympic Village, will be lit up with professionally designed holiday displays and sit adjacent to a brand new Christmas market.

There’ll be over 40 local vendors, 12 food trucks, and a beer garden for special holiday beverages.
